Re: mini SDS
Same here I've only ever done Mini SDS in Science Lab and Main Office, we are audited internally and externally to often to count since 2001 and have never had a problem. When and if we do I'll look at full SDS. Was always told if there is a fire, you get out! the place is insured. Except for the od...

Re: Jobs part time or full time or looking for work

I'm a little nervous after working full time my entire life, part time every school holidays when I was a teenager, it's time!! \:D/  Following the link below https://teacherson.ne...

Re: Spring Balances
I'm glad it's not just me the decline over the last 20 years is scarey. Even the pracs I'm asked to prepare some days, I feel like a kindergarten assisstant. There needs to be boundies some not all teachers, "the need to be friends with the kids". Build a rapport yes! kids aren't stupid gi...

Re: Spring Balances
They've stretched the springs, so just going to throw out and replace. Some were old metal ones and old plastic, how you can't see when the kids are doing the wrong thing, I don't know.

Re: Spring Balances
Morning brains trust,
I've just had a Yr 7 class using the spring balances with 250 gm masses. They have been swinging them to measure angle. Well now most are broken any idea on how I could fix them, trying to get them apart is a nightmare. Or just replace.

Re: Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for removal of chemicals
I haven't heard anything about Mercury being banned from schools? The old thermometers have been for years. We still have a sample inside a small glass container sealed inside another labeled container for viewing only kids are allowed to feel the total weight of the container. RiskAssess still has ...

Maybe they just hit the ground and kept running, away... Welcome back!! that's exactly how I felt. Sadly still here. Arrived first day back and Fridge/freezer full of Dissection had gone off!! OMG this is the second time in 29years. Hopfully I never see it again. Our maintenance men removed from th...

Re: nickel sulfate
We go by RiskAssess as well. CSIS hasn't been updated for decades, the Dept must be waiting for a legal case before they start?? It's bound to happen, one day, sadly. Had to laugh at this, but it isn't really a laughing matter! I went to a general WHS course run by AIS and, can you believe, they sa...

Re: Eyes for dissection
We are lucky enough to have a butcher that will get them from a abattoir 3 hours away, he vaccuum packs into class set for me. Our abattoir closed years ago. Eyes are becoming more and more expensive. I just tried to get him to order Hearts, Kidneys & brains and apparently the abattoirs are only...

As far as I'm aware nothing has changed they still have to be purchased can't be made or obtained from a pathology service. Ours come from Southern Biological.
Let us know if you find anything different.

Re: Plastic squeeze bottles for acids and bases
We have never had a problem with them, no contamination or spills. Haven't ever had students squirting them. The original lids were prone to cracking but the new ones are fine. We don't use glass dropper bottles anymore, haven't for years.
