Hi all, has anyone had good success using Caster Oil for oil immersion microscopy. What about clean up of the slides after? Do you need methylated spirits or alcohol wipes?

Re: multi- well glass tiles
Thanks to you all for your ideas I have tried most of those methods and was looking for something more permanent. An overhead which is suctioned into wells via some sort of vacuum controlled device would be perfect but alas, beyond my humble capabilities.

multi- well glass tiles
Does anyone know where to buy multi- well glass tiles for precipitation reactions. I have a few old ones but their numbers are diminishing. I also tried white ceramic ones used for art/painting but they are not good for white precipitates. I have also looked up blood bank/serology ones, but they don...

I have just bought a replacement Samsung OPTEK Colour video camera to use with a purpose built microscope. The new one is giving a fuzzy image, compared to the old one, when projected on the smart board screen.

Re: pancreatin
I just googled it and it listed lipase, protease, amlyase & trypsin as making up Protease. Also seemed that you can buy it at Chemists/health food stores eg. Now foods $17.72 a bottle. Doesn't sound like pepsin alone would do the job, but I don't know for sure.

Re: meker burner
I'm trying to encourage the teachers to use the bunsen in the fume hood when they burn sulfur, also there a just a couple of clean up jobs I like to use it for- so as long as you centre the bunsen right in the middle of cupboard and have two sides of your tripod covered in foil, then the bunsen work...

Re: meker burner
Yes thank you Shaz ,you are correct & I have already put those things into place using the foil baffle etc. I thought the meker burner might simplify things but the budget is tighter than ever with having to buy new text books for the new curriculum, so I am on the scrounge

I know that you can buy indicator strips that go 1-14 pH but is there a recipe to make up (Universal is only 3-13) that shows this range. My HT takes an lovely autism class and they couldn't get that there were limitations on the Universal solution.

Re: Flammable cupboards
Good luck with flammables cupboard refurbishment. If you don't score a vented model, you can wrap the lids with PVA electricians tape to seal in the fumes. Its a chep but effective way of preventing inhalation of fumes when you need to rummage in that cupboard. Mabey do it when you first set up new ...
