Hi,
Trying to come up with a good cheap way to get the students to practice pipetting for electrophoresis.
Any tips?
We thought to make up agar with the wells and maybe use food dye?
Thanks
Annette.

Re: Spectrum Tubes
Oh wow thank you that is a great help. I had a more experienced bio teacher walk in this morning and start playing with it. He seemed to be able to keep it going better but you have to continually tweak the screw. Maybe I need to sandpaper the connections a bit. The induction coil does produce a goo...

Re: Spectrum Tubes
image0 (6).jpeg Not sure if I have attached the photo correctly. This is our set up. I have found that by adjusting the screw it goes on and off but I cannot get a consistent connection/flow? We have a new induction coil (in the background) that seems to be even worse. Should I get one of those spe...

Spectrum Tubes
Hi,
We have fairly new spectrum tubes (set of 6 in a stand from IEC) and a new high voltage induction coil. When we fire them up they run for a few seconds then stop. Not long enough to observe the colour spectrum. Any ideas or tips?
Thanks

year 12 ester prac
Hi All, There is a year 12 chemistry prac in the new syllabus that uses decanoic acid and salicylic acid (Pearson 12 prac 7.4) to make esters. Because these are in powdered form they need to be made into a solution. I am not sure what strength to make them. The prac does not specify. Has anyone else...

Physics prac - Parallel wire conductors
Hi,
There is a prac in the new Pearson Physics text for year 12 (prac 6.2) that does not specify what type of power supply is needed for the bundled cable. Is it a power pack or a battery pack? Any feedback for this prac would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Annette.

Re: Rubber Stoppers
Westlab's silicon green stoppers are the best invention. We have two sizes now and planning to get more. No more searching through tubs of dried out rubber stoppers for the right fit. They are worth the expense. I almost put a glass tube through my finger a year ago trying to insert it into a rubber...

tests for heavy metal cations in water
Has anyone ever had success with this year 12 prac? It is in the conquering chem modules (module 3 worksheet 14). It requires testing various water samples from stream, tap, drain etc for heavy metal cations. We are not able to ever get a result. Any advice would be appreciated.

Radioactive isotopes
I have had a teacher ask if it is a requirement to put a radiation warning sign on the classroom door when using radioactive isotopes in the classroom. Is anyone able to provide information on this?
Thanks

Are they doing these days at Booragul too? I have received a previous flyer with a PD day for Friday 1 April at Booragul but only for the advanced day (part 2).

Hi, I have a teacher chasing copies of an older textbook series called "Science Teachers Resource Book for junior secondary classes." Clearway publishing, vols 1 and 3. Authors are Brothers, Gow and Mackay. If anyone could help me out please let me know.
Thanks.
