Rock and mineral specimens
Good afternoon guys, I am struggling to find a supplier who sells small (3-4cm) specimens of common minerals and rocks as top-up spares for our kits. Serrata (now MTA) previously sold bags of quartz, or granite, or limestone etc, but no longer. Anyone know who supplies these? Thanks! Cheers, Chocolate

S.O.P.s and R.A.s - how long are they valid for?
Hi Guys, We are having a safety audit next term, and apart from an updated chemical register and SDS's, I was wondering if and when equipment S.O.P.s need revising or reprinting even though nothing has changed. Similarly for prep staff risk assessments; how long are they valid for? Thanks! And happy...

Re: Vacuum pump oil - what do you use?
Thanks so much Harvey! Our pump has 'XZ-1 Rotary Vacuum pump' marked on it, but the specs have rubbed off. It's quite old so I have no idea of who the supplier was. One lab supplier sells compressor oil for vacuum pumps, but I'm not sure if this is ok to use. I'll keep looking for a local supplier. ...

Vacuum pump oil - what do you use?
Hi there everyone,
We need more oil for our vacuum pump, and I've been reading such conflicting views on the internet.
I'd love to know what type of oil you use......and where you buy it from.
Thanks!

FREE USED LAB COATS!!!
Hi Everyone,
We replaced all our lab coats at the end of last year
So, we have around 120 old white lab coats to give away!
Many of them are stained, and they have been laundered recently, ready for pick up from Dee Why, Sydney.
Message me if you're keen!
Cheers

Re: Chemwatch 'fun'
Hi guys, I'm in the process of updating our chemical register too; does anyone know whether the Chemwatch manifest list is acceptable/compliant as a stand-alone chemical register? Our previous lab assistant had an additional excel spreadsheet too; just seems to be duplicating unnecessarily? I notice...

Which plant is best to use?
Hi everyone, We have a year 8 prac where students cover leaves with strips of aluminium and leave it for a few days to show that no starch forms in the covered areas (after further testing with boiling in metho and using iodine for indicator). What is the best (pot) plant to use? I'm using geranium,...

How do you test if H2O2 is still "fresh"?
Hi Guys,
I have done a search on the forum, but there isn't a mention of how one can test if a peroxide solution
is still effective.
Does anyone have a quick and easy test for this? Typically on 3% and 6% solutions.
Thanks!
Regards

How do I clean off burned sugar in evap. dishes?
Good day everyone,
I have 6 large evaporating dishes that have burned sugar in them, that I really do not want to throw away.
Does anyone have a good tip on how to clean them? I've tried soaking, scalpal-scraping and steelwool scouring but no
luck! Thanks guys!
