Snapping Glass Rods

I've got these long glass rods that I would like to cut/snap into shorter length rods for a heat conductivity experiement. The thing is these rods are about approximatley 1cm think are quite hard to snap. Does anyone know an easier (and safe) way to cut or snap glass? //EDITED by adam. Reason: make ...

Preserved Biological Specimens

I have a few specimens that are still stored in formaldehyde (most of them need topping up). I have been asked to replace the formaldehyde with 50% enthanol solution but the head teacher is abit concerned with the handling of formaldehyde. Does anyone know of a place that will do the solution change...

I have a storeroom that has an extraction unit but this room is used to store general equipment. I have 2 prep rooms, though 1 is not in the same main science building. Since space is a problem I think that's why the previous lab asssistant aranged the chemicals in that way. Thanks for sheding some ...

Laboratory Rules

I'm in the process of making a set of laboratory rules that I would like to print as posters for all the labs and also give a copy to the junior students. I was wondering if anyone else has done this? If so what are the rules in your labs?

Removing Rust

Does anyone know an easy way how to remove rust? I have a whole heap of test tubes that have rust stains inside them that I can't seem to remove. I've tried soaking them in 50% acetic acid solution then dilute HCl and they are pretty much the same. It would be such a waste to throw out all these tes...

I totally agree with you Mother. I have previously worked as a chemist but I've only been a lab assistant for about 6 weeks and I sometimes wonder how people without a science background cope with the job.

I was very surprised with level of pay. I assumed it would have been alittle higher.

Gloves

If you have allergies then I would recomend using low powdered gloves and also cotton gloves underneath.
