Re: CSIS training for new and long-term staff
If you are a lab assistant in a NSW DEC school, have you seen the current issue of SchoolBiz (through the portal). Under the heading PROGRAM UPDATES, there is an article in relation to a review of the CSIS package inviting employees to participate in a survey. I completed it this morning, it only to...

We also use the LabQuest, we have recently had the NSW representative from Scientrific come and give us some training. I found him very good.

Re: Job Description
This is for NSW DEC Science staff who are members of the PSA. Did you receive the email from the PSA dated 17 August 2015, regarding 'Pay Equity (equal remuneration) campaign for SAS staff? The PSA has commenced a pay equity (equal remuneration) campaign for SAS staff (School Administrative Officers...

Re: Chemwatch labels
Do you have to have the school's chemicals recorded in Chemwatch Gold FFX manifest prior to being able to generate a label? I have had a look at the FFX manual, but I am finding it confusing. I'm from a NSW DEC school and have been using Chemwatch gold where I found generating a chemical label easy....

Hi Whspa
I'm from a NSW DEC school, I have just tried to log in and got "access has expired". I've not seen this before, I only logged in last Friday.

We purchased a new Thermoline 43lt Code 050915-0043 incubator July last year, it was purchased from Westlab. It's only been used a handful of times , but I find it very easy to set to a specific temperature.

DOES YOUR SCHOOL HAVE AN AG FARM?
Hi All I'm wondering if your school has an Ag Farm? If so, is your Head Teacher Science the Head Teacher Ag as well, or does Ag come under the TAS faculty? Some year 7 & 8 students do Ag for D&T, this subject is taught by the Science/Ag teacher (but D&T is under TAS). We have year 9, 10,...

Re: GHS labels
Lizzib I work at a NSW DET school, and I haven't heard anything as yet. Thinking about it, I've worked here for approximately 12 years and I have never seen anything in writing about Chemicals etc in writing from the department, only what I've read in CSIS.

Re: GHS Labelling and frustrations with Chemwatch
Wondering if someone from a NSW DEC school who uses Chemgold III can please help me. Last term when I had to print off a chemical label I was able to click on the label (PDF) to copy it and then I would paste it to a word document. I was then able to manipulate the label and walk to the photocopy ro...

Wow! That would be a great excursion. My son did Earth & Environmental Science last year for his HSC, he would have loved an excursion like that. Unfortunately, his class was the first EES class at this school for many, many years and it's not running at the moment because of the number of stude...

Thanks for this info about the foil on the bunsen burner. I too have the problem of the bunsen flame going out when in the fume hood. I have been putting the bunsen right on the edge of the fume hood and using it. Not the safest method.

Hi fibreweb I work in a NSW DEC school, and when I logged onto chemwatch this week I got the message that it was going to be obsolete in 89 days, it counts down each day. I phoned the support number which appears in the message. I was told that this doesn't apply the NSW DEC schools, and in 'however...

You must use distilled water when making up silver nitrate otherwise it goes cloudy and defeats the purpose when trying to test for chlorides.

Re: STELR
I have mine separated into different boxes i.e. solar panels all together etc. I find it easier to go to each box to get the equipment needed for pracs. However, I have kept the "small" kits (little cars, infra red thermometer etc) together in their original boxes, I find this works well.
