Hi,
Does anyone using the science focus 3 books know what the cards are that are used in practical activity memory 1 unit 8.5 senses on page 247. I was just asked by the teacher she doesn't know either.
Thanks

Re: venting of cabinets/chemical storage in hot weather
Hi, I think it was me that started this off a couple of weeks ago asking about venting the flammable cupboard because like you ,I keep copping a build up of vapours as I open the flammable cupboard. This is causing me health problems, it feels like I am having an asthma attack and then I get short o...

I don't think they will block this site again in a hurry, they must have had plenty of emails about it. I sent one as well.

identifying plastics
Hi,
Does anyone have a list of types of plastics, eg. under milk containers its a number 2, juice bottles no.1, takeaway containers no. 5.
I had a print out of what all the different numbers are but can't for the life of me find it when I need it.
Thanks Estelle.

Re: Pressure cooker or autoclave total dissolved solids meter
That is actually interesting isn't it. Especially when you consider that when using the glad bags in an oven you have to add flour and leave the bag tied loose so the steam can escape. I read somewhere that they are heat resistant up to 200 deg so maybe the microwave doesn't get that hot. I also wou...

Re: Pressure cooker or autoclave total dissolved solids meter
I was thinking about the experience with the melted agar plates and the time you had to have off, I don't think it was all in your head by any means. I had a live blood analysis during the holidays and the naturopath that was checking the results asked if I was a smoker because something seems to be...

Re: Plaster of Paris set in test tubes
Hello,
Have you tried vinegar, because that is what is used to slow down the setting time of plaster of paris compared to salt to speed it up.

Hi, I am in just starting to do a chemical stocktake for the year and I noticed in the CSIS folder that DCPIP is toxic in one area and non toxic in another it gets a bit confusing sometimes. Anyway, all you can do is send out the PPE and if they don't use it properly well too bad. I can't remember w...

Re: Fossils
treasureenterprises.com seem to have good selection and prices for all sorts of rocks, fossils etc. They are in QLD.
Estelle.
Found the ones I needed on ebay for good prices but not a good idea if the auditor won't let the school reimburse you.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestion. It is actually the year 10 students that go to learning support and they have to make a model of the dna. Learning level is a bit hard to guess. flammable cupboards to store HSC papers
Hello, I just had a discussion with the SAO and she said the reason there is a perfectly good flammable cupboard in the school photocopy room is because it is needed to store the HSC papers in so they are secure and if there is a fire they won't burn. I was wanting to see if I could get the flammabl...

Re: Safety in Laboratories Training Course
Hi,
Are we allowed to train other staff members in the CSIS? Do we need special training or something, because at the moment my head teacher is getting time off to go and learn how to deliver the course to new staff to the school. I helped run the course last year with the previous HT.
