Not a prob mate. I spend literally hours on there (oh yeh I don't have a life!!! lol) But you can jump from applied chemistry to physics to astrology. If you need any help with homework they are willing to help. But I just love reading some of the replies to posts too, they are real characters. See ...

Hi MichPull,

I find after a while (even new dishwashers) build up residue, so I run some citric acid through from time to time. Hope this helps. :-)

Thanks Robb, I will pass on these ideas to the teachers. I found another great experiment regarding foods and digestions, and that is to find out how much fortified iron is in cereals. Place the cereal into a beaker and add water and using a white magnetic stirrer after a few minutes or so you can s...

White Boards

Hi all, Has anybody ever had to re-coat any of your whiteboards? The trouble is over the years the film has come off and everytime any of the teachers write on them they have to use the special whiteboard cleaner spray to remove the text. Just wondering if anyone knows of the approximate cost too. T...

Hi all,

The Lab Tech I used to work with wore nurses shoes. She reckons they are very comfortable as nurses spend alot of time on their feet too!
The only draw back is they are expensive but tax deductable.

Hi Miranda,

How lucky are you. The only snakes I get are what the kids bring in to preserve for them.
How ever being a country school we have marron and have been successfully breeding them. (I do have to keep a close eye on them as they are quite popular eating!)

Hi mate,

Have a looki in the Supply West catalogue p227,
the mediflex are only $4.00 for a hundred.
That's all we use over here.
Apart from that I use a good quality glove for stronger chems.

Toluidene Stain

Morning/Afternoon peoples, I would appreciate some info about the stain, Toluidene. I know it's used for showing the different structures and cells in say celery, but can it be substituted for another stain (apart from iodine)? I don't have any Toluidene on hand and it's not worth buying it in for o...

Cheers Coxy,

We also have a couple of dodgy skeletons that need updating, So that's good to know.

The real skeleton is incomplete as it was vandilised a few years ago, but I can't help feeling that it was a real person and deserves to be put to rest.

Hi everyone, Trying to get back in the swing of things but it is hard. Along the same lines as mummified cats and that, I have a real skeleton that needs to be put to rest somewhere.... Giving it a burial is out of the question, the police don't see the humour in digging up skeletons. :giggle: I bel...

Chemtalk is also a great way for us WA'ers to get in touch with each other, as we are not only isolated in areas but segregatated into Public and Private schools which is a shame. We have different PD days so there is hardly any contact between us. Be nice if there could be one day at the end of the...

70% Sulfuric Acid

Hi everyone, I'm in a bit confused, I'm setting up a prac that requires 70% sulfuric acid. It's for breaking cell walls of foods, fresh and processed. (upper school) The trouble is the science staff are divided as to what molarity it should be. I've made it around 7M which I think is strong enough, ...
