Hello friends! My MAT Leave cover position is online and can be found here - https://www.cranbrook.nsw.edu.au/about-us/work-at-cranbrook/ It's going to be pretty busy next year as we move to 10 classes for each junior year group, 3 prelim classes each of bio, physics and chem, plus IB (much small co...

Re: Mat leave cover for 2024

Thank you! Yeah it gets pretty busy at times. I'm trying to get an extra 0.5 labbie as well as we will be increasing student numbers soon but it's a slow process.

6 students! That's such a lovely size!

Re: Chemicals not sold by Westlab or other common suppliers

Has anyone ever bought from Sigma? We used to get lab supplies from them all the time when I worked in medical research, but not sure about for a school. I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago with a science extension student. Setting up the account was very easy. I contacted one of the...

Re: Risk Assessment

Just jumping on this thread (from nearly a decade ago!!) and wondering who has/still has the student riskassess and how much does it get used? We are only a small school so not sure it would be worth the extra $$ to only be used for one or 2 classes per year (especially when I have one teacher who ...

Re: Vacuum Pump

Adding to my previous question. The vacuum pump has possibly overheated and doesn't turn on anymore. The fresh oil I had just put in has drained out opaque instead of clear. Any thoughts on what could have caused this? Should I add it to the list of repair jobs (external) or try to buy a new one? I...

Re: Vacuum Pump

Hi all! Just had the joys of discovering the oil of our vac pump hasn't been changed in ages. Flushed out the old stuff and replaced it with what we had in the storeroom. The old container didn't have any true labels on it. I was wondering if anyone knows what type of light machine oil I can buy and...

Re: Sodium Hydroxide solution

If you really want to, could make a dilute solution of known volume and titrate it against a primary standard. But as Merilyn mentioned, much easier to buy a new bottle :)

Re: Spectrometer

Hi all,

Resurrecting this thread. I have inherited the IEC flame absorption spectrometer/colorimeter. What do I use for the air inlet connection? A gas cylinder? An air compressor? I don't have much experience with either.

Hi all! Welcome to term 3! I hope you all are doing well.

Just wanting to bump this thread. I've got a few waterbaths, heating mantles and microscopes that need a look at. Do any of you have contacts? I'm in the Sydney Eastern Suburbs.

Thanks!!

Gypsum (mineral) safety

Hi there! One of my teachers asked if there's any safety concerns regarding gypsum. We have some fibrous gypsum in our kits. I did a quick search on here and only found information on talc and asbestos and the removal of old kits containing them. On a side note and not wanting to create a new topic ...

Thanks Lyn! Have done that in the past using a really big beaker but then thought a larger surface area would be better for the demonstration?

Our oval is currently a construction site so it's a no go there haha
