Here is an email that was sent to us QLD labbies, its a great idea.
Just on this subject my very good friend lives in Samoa and they (the Samoans) are doing it really tough over there, maybe your local rotary/lions club can organise to get the stuff over there as well.
Good luck

Re: Chemical Disposal
Could you maybe pour some into a shallow tray and evaporate it off in the fume cupboard each weekend, long slow process I know but bit by bit and it is gone. I recently went to a chemical disposal PD day for all the local labbies in this area and they suggested disposal by the above method and also ...

The former labby here, who has now gone over to IT (computer genius), made up our own using an access program. All the pracs from the various text books and teachers heads are written into the program and when the teachers need to order a prac they simply look up the experiment name from a drop down...

I have dissed the blender and now give students a ziplock bag with either strawberries or bananas in them. They mush it up in the bag. No mess and it gets thrown in bin at the end. I will attempt attach my procedure :? I think that as long as the ethanol or metho is really really cold and you pour i...

All I can do is try to get them to fill them out, most do, some do after I have nagged them and then 1 or 2 just dont :redcard: they keep promising them but they never get around to it. My HOD knows about it so I think it is upto him to jog their memories. Dont get me wrong they are a great bunch to...

Pracs for Genetics and Biology
Hi Guys
Does anyone have any fun pracs to do concerning genetics. This is for a yr 9 class that is a little unruly so the prac needs to be fun and engaging.
Also are there any good biology pracs out there suitable for yr 8s.
Thanks in advance
Nicky

Re: Agar-phenopthalein jelly
Hi Trish No you cannot substitue gelatine for agar. Gelatine has a melting point at around room temperature. Trust me the plates end up a sloppy stinking mess. Go with agar every time. You can get it from Silform for $78.00 or crown scientific for $73.70. I guess thats why its so expensive because t...

Re: Evacuation drills

The kids are pretty well drilled about lockdown and they need to get to the nearest allocated room. I think its important to practise the lunch time drills a...

Re: How long does it take?
Up here in FNQ I usually wait about 3 weeks. It certainly depends on the company. I ordered heaps of material first week back at school and I received the majority of it within 3 weeks the rest came in dribs and drabs I'm assuming they were on backorder. I have only just received the last lot of tha...

Hey Slarti Congratulations on your new position and welcome to the sunny state, winter in QLD is just beautiful especially in FNQ. When I found out we had to move to qld from NSW we had less then 2 weeks to pack up and move 2000km over christmas. Do you know how hard it is to organise removalists et...
