Hey Smiley
We in the state systems in QLD feel ripped off. 11 week term and only 1 week off
Nowhere near long enough. I am like Pilar counting down the weeks until a decent break.........9 more weeks to go

Re: Wanted - if anyone had an old one by chance...
Hi Kell welcome to chemtalk, a forum full of info and a bit of fun thrown in. When I first started I heard about "The Laboratory" and insisted that the school buy it for me, if they want a labbie to know what they are doing then they needed to buy that book for me. While I will not part wi...

Re: Bench Cloths v Paper Towel
We use paper towel here. I buy the rolls in bulk sometimes locally sometimes through gov. stores depends whats cheaper at the time. I buy $2.00 soap on tap and each lab has access and suprisingly it doesnt get wasted (plus I water it down to get more out of it) :giggle: Never had problems with wasta...

Yes it sets but only when in the fridge. It melts at about 30 degrees hence you cannot use gelatine as a substitute for agar.....ends up being a nasty smelly mess.

Yes we only have the MSDS for the highest concentration. Gosh you would have way too much paperwork for every solution.

Re: Delivering gear to labs
I deliver the tote boxes to all the labs we have 6 in total and 2 make shift labs if they run out of room depending on student size. 6 of the labs are in one block and the 2 make shift ones are in the next block. Our science block is 2 storey so that means a lot of climbing up and down stairs (good ...

Re: Do you go to faculity meetings?
I have never been invited to a faculty meeting. If I asked my HOD I'm sure he would say yes come along but I think it would be a waste of my time as it is all teacher orientated. If there is something I want put forward I tell my HOD and he does it for me, it would mean more coming from him as well....

Yes thats right Liz. They can hold 2 class sizes of dropper bottles - 8 per class (16 all up) easily. I'm telling you its a very very practical way of storing solutions. I love my prep rooms.....now if only they were air conditioned .........

Hi Lynda The red containers on the wall do hold all our made up solutions. Believe it or not we could use more, never thought we would fill them up but we have. I'm pretty sure we purchased them from the SDS catalogue (not sure if you have that it NT) but its a Qld Education supplies catalogue. I re...

Re: soil test kits- help to make our own?
We made our own kits up here too as the cost of store bought kits was a bit extreme. We managed to make about 5 kits for less then the price of 1. We have in a chinese container the following: Dropper bottle Universal Indicator Dropper bottle Barium sulphate 2 plastic teaspoons PH colour chart Set o...

Re: venting of cabinets/chemical storage in hot weather
Our chemical cabinets are vented and we do have an exhaust fan that runs all the time. We have louvered windows way up high (2nd floor) that are also open. Never has there been a problem with smells, vapours etc. You definately need ventilation. As for the room being air conditioned, I could only wi...
