anyone know why Scienceassist suggests not disposing down sink? that would save the sinks when the darlings chuck it into the sink and don't wash it down!!

Re: Dishwasher Meile vs Omega(on special at Westlab $505)
Also in the market. saw the westlab unit but agree looks a little small. thought I'd go the other extreme and got a price for lab glassware washer. (top of the range possibly) with all the extra racks nearly $9000. I'm sure it would do a fantastic job but out of our price range.

Hey Xenon, thought i needed to reply as no one was talking to you. we have a Helios Planetarium which is a pretty fancy thing and is much more than a solar system model. does heaps more than what we need as a Junior high. great setup, had it for ever, is roughly to scale. pretty pricey though and no...

Just wondering what you are doing that it needs to be in the fume hood? I can't remember the last time I used the bunsen burner in the fume hood. Just wondering what you are doing that it needs to be in the fume hood? Hi Fibreweb, the gas tap in the fume hood is the only one i have in the prep room....

Re: meker burner
that problem wouldn't happen to be that the bunsen gets blown out when the fan of the fume cupboard is on? the flow rate of air in my fume hood was too great for the pressure in the gas line. when i had my fume hood tested last time, the technician solved the problem for me by wrapping 2 sides of th...

Re: How long do you store agar plates?
in a time long, long ago, agar plates were a regular necessity. but we'd make a batch of agar, store in little bottles, capacity of 1 plate and store in fridge. when you needed them you'd grab the number reqd, heat in water bath, pour into petri dishes and away you'd go. at another location, we'd ju...

The silica gel has the ability to absorb any moisture in its environment. you can't see inside the little pillows but when it's saturated the silica gel turns pink. when it's bright blue it has capacity to absorb moisture. you can dry out pink silica gel by putting it in the oven :coffee: and watch ...

Re: Soggy Chemicals
Maybe what your thinking of is a dessicator. I'm sure you could google it. you need to put some silica gel or some other substance in the bottom to absorb moisture. it has a tight fitting lid so you create a dry atmosphere. if you use one, make sure you grease the seal between lid and base...

When my cherubs fill the griffins with solution, I usually suck some water into the bulb, give it a swirl, and then expel the water. i might rinse with fresh water a couple of times, then get rid of as much of the water from the bulb as possible. i then leave it on my nice warm sunny windowsill (or ...
