Re: swapping Jobs???

Thats it Noona!!! NEVER make it look at all easy and let them know very vocally how many near misses (make it up) you have a day and your position is as good as safe!

How could they swap you? You ARE science!

I bet they have a rethink.

Re: swapping Jobs???

Multi tasking is one of those things a Principal likes to do every few years to show who's boss. It provides very little if any practical gain to the running of a school in fact it takes weeks for everyone to settle into their new positions.

Re: fog machine

If you have a magnetic stirrer and a 2-3 litre beaker you can create mini tornadoes on a benchtop. If it was me, I'd probably fill the science staffroom with it before they arrived first thing in the morning. But that's just me because I know they'd do it to my prep room if they had the chance. :w00...

Re: DATA LOGGER COURSE

OK so long as you have pretty much exactly the loggers and probes they have. A teacher of ours was told our loggers (4 months old) had too slow a sampling rate to be of any use on the course.

They don't seem to cover too many makes of Data Loggers.

Re: 2008 St Marys conference

T-up with someone else up your way (if possible) and split the cost of travel and accomodation if you can! It's about the only way labbies from non metro areas can get to go from a SAM's point of view.

I think a few have done it in past years.

Re: Who uses Data Loggers?

Quite a bit has been posted on this before - we were in the same boat about 12 months ago. In the end we went for Data Harvest against Vernier but there are many others. Vernier has a much higher sampling rate than Data Harvest which would have been a bonus in retrospect. No single probe will measur...

Re: Frogs

Pond slime is the staple diet of the tadpole. They will take fish flakes but only in very small amounts. Lettuce boiled till it's soft is a better option. Find a slimey pond if you can and collect a litre or two. Keep it on a window ledge (not in direct sunlight) and it will grow - giving you year-r...

Re: Glassware in labs?

'Our' lot wouldn't do that Jen! Year 9 (for some reason) do think every bit of glassware other than a beaker is a bong though. Do they think of anything else? Are they capable?

Nice benches Loopy!

Re: Frogs

Came in this morning to find my male common Marsh frogs 'bokking' away merrily for the 1st time this season which means they are after a mate. Half an hour later - frogspawn! Blimey they don't muck about. We'll have loads of tadpoles to release in the next few weeks. In the lower piccy you can just ...

Re: Glassware in labs?

We keep no equipment in the labs apart from bunsens, retort stands, tripods and gauze. All other equipment is kept in my 2 prep rooms and storerooms. It's too time consuming for me to keep all labs stocked. All drawers and cupboards are locked in labs. I only issue glassware if asked for or if I kno...

True, but I'm looking at it from the point of view of things we are allowed to keep that cannot be used together in a banned experiment. CSIS will not show this.

I'm awaiting a reply from Richard Morante. He's the Senior Curriculum Adviser for Science yrs K-12 in NSW for the DET. If there is a current document available (for NSW) regarding what we can and cannot do then I'm sure he'd know of it. I'll post it as soon as anything is made available. The DET and...

Re: looking for a temporary position in western Sydney area

Just curious... Did you get a chance to apply for the position yourself if it was advertised or was it a service transfer of the new person into your position? If it was advertised without your knowledge you can appeal against the appointment, but if it's a service/compasionate transefer and you are...
