Re: Maintenance Schedule
I agree Ian, feeling very lazy here. Love your philosophy Julie  One thing I like to do on a regular basis is make sure when all "kits" come back in that they are checked and put back into order so that they are right ready to go when needed next time. By this I mean light boxes, ...

Re: Junket!!
Southern Biological also supply junket (code: MC23.85) 10gms for just under $10. Not sure if it appears in their current catalogue as it is a fairly new addition.

Re: data logger purchase
Hi there, We also have a Data Harvest data logger and are very happy with it. They're very user friendly and the back up from Serrata has been very good. (I should qualify that with the fact that we are only 15 minutes drive from them however.) We had a problem with the battery not long after we fir...

Re: incubators
Hi there, We have a litlle hot water cylinder in a cupboard under one of my prep. room sinks which sits at about 25 degrees. This does the job nicely, more than enough growth for the students and from a safety perspective you aren't encouraging human pathogens. They will still grow but you aren't se...

Just in case you haven't got recipe for the methylene blue stain. Stock Solution = 1.5g methylene blue in 100ml 95% ethanol. Dilute stock 1:10 with...

We use ethanol or methylated spirits. Works pretty well. Just soak for a couple of hours prior to use or overnight if needed first thing.

I get mine from Fiegerts also Robyn. If you are going to pick up give them a call first though as they close early sometimes I think. Also you could try Westside Wholesalers at Bella Vista. Phone 96590699. Not sure if they are even there any more and it was slabs of dry ice not the pellets. You paid...

Re: 10% HCl
Sorry Liz, I think by your reply you took me the wrong way. If hes away its a bit hard, teachers are not always clear with their requests are they. It wastes alot of our precious time trying to track them down and we're not mind readers.
Good luck

Re: 10% HCl
Would have done the same as you Barbara - a very handy little formular that one. Can I just suggest Liz that you go back to who ever asked you for this and check that they don't just want a straight 10% solution ie the old 10mls in 100mls etc. only because it makes quite a difference to the conc. th...

I've tried this a couple of times as well and only had limited success. Its very time consuming and I'm sure all in the way you hold your tongue at various points, there is a method in the book The Laboratory (available from Southern Biological- a must if you don't already own one) look under aceto-...

Southern Biological also now have Junket powder. Apparently two enterprising ladies who used to work for the "junket tablet" company have started their own little business supplying this.

Ah yes Deputies you've got to love their dedication and attention to the important details. A few years ago when all of the OHS issues were first being raised we had alot more fire extinguishers installed around the school in the little bright red cabinets. They were painted beige to blend in better...

Just don't do what my grandmother did many years ago. She didn't understand the process of fermentation and wanted to make a sweet fruit wine so she decided all she needed to do was to just keep adding sugar!! The end product was variously described as rocket fuel, engine degreaser you get the pictu...

Rob, could I also please trouble you for a copy. Fax 9634 6184 Many thanks. Just a question with regards to risk assessments? I write a risk assessment for every procedure that I carry out that warrants one and have MSDS available for all chemicals that we carry but I don't write any risk assessment...
