Re: Plaster of Paris set in test tubes
I got some Plaster of paris from Bunnings! Much cheaper than any of my suppliers .. I have also managed to find it at art supply places - but it is more expensive from them... As to the test tubes.. if you look at how much they cost you as against the cost of cleaning them [taking into account the t...

Re: Storage of Chemicals
Storage of Chemicals - if your school uses Chemwatch on-line, after you have completed the Manifest, you can ask for a report which will show conflicts in storage.. this helps when re-locating chemicals, but keep in mind that Chemwatch is set up for Industrial amounts, not school amounts. As to disp...

I put them next to an ants nest with a plastic crate over them, bricks on top of the crate .. and 1" wire under neath them.. Yyou need to actually spread them out carefully so the little bones dont all fall into each other.. if you are game and have a strong stomach - lay them out as if you wer...

I was shown a quick way to make a smoke bomb - many of you probably know this from your teenage years... wrap a ping pong ball in aluminium foil.. make the piece big enough to extend some to make a 'handle' to hold it.. then heat it up using a cigarette lighter .. I wonder though about how toxic the...

Re: swapping Jobs???
Oh I just can't see the office ladies doing my job! A few years ago I applied for a license to collect 'road-kill', so I could mount the skeletons of native animals. :) There was a big morning tea on in the office for a birthday celebration, when the Principal's secretary brought the licence in to m...

OUr Library receives Enhance TV - it is very helpful - IF the teachers would take the time to tell me which ones they need copying!

Hi all,
We had Phil at an In-service here - he is very good at this and I highly recommend him.
We are trying to get enough people interested so we can have him come to Newcastle to run the course here.

Re: How many of us wear Lab coats??
I don't like lab coats - used to wear them all the time in my previous life in Industry.. I have found the Pathology style lab coats are better at keeping clothes clean - they are the ones that have a back opening... but if I wear mine around the school I am told I look like a 'dork!'... :cheesy: My...

Re: Glassware in labs?
We keep nearly ALL the glassware in the Labs .. I just wouldnt have room in the Prep Rooms! The glassware is stored in glass fronted cupboards, so you can see at a glance its condition. I have a dishwasher in the main prep room and take the really grubby stuff there to wash... BUT - in a busy week I...

What about a good toy shop - or a Hobby shop - you know the type that sells models etc... My kids used to have wooden blocks that had arches and things in the set - and they made things like that...
I get a lot of interesting bits and pieces from Toy ashops AND Australian Geographic shops...

Welll. I DID ... I just didnt do it all.
Just as you suggested - I said 'NO' a few times - you should have seen the shocked looks!!!
BUT as we all know, what you don't do follows you day after day after...
Maybe i will catch up with everything - in the year 2012 perhaps!
