I have 900 students, 7-12. 6 Labs - 4 on one level-1st floor, and 2 at ground level at opposite ends of the campus from each other. There is only me... I have just been given a temporary increase in paid time to 7.5 hours a day.. I don't work holidays.

we have stainless steel here, and they work well... except for the newer lab where the quality of the sinks is...... I cant say what I think!!!

I gave up on the old system last year .... We got an ex-geology teacher in for a day and he classified all the rocks.. I then used my own system to label them.. Igneous is 'I', then the 2 types are 'i' or 'e' .. then a number Sedimentary are S..then nnumber metamorphic ..yep are M then we go to Rock...

Back to thye lamb brains .. we had an intern who demanded that she would do brain dissections, even though the brains had been frozen and so would turn to mush.. and of course, Lab techs know absolutely nothing! So, I put out the gear and left her to it. :mad: This person also had no classroom manag...

Volcano We have used Bicarb soda, red food colouring and vinegar in a coke bottle - I make a mound of mud and pebbles around the bottle to simulate a 'mountain'... put bicarb in bottle with red food colouring then pour in vinegar,, BUT - have just found a great one on "about.chemistry" .. ...

THIS has been an interesting discussion.. I just looked up my pay - and I sure dont get $36,000! Ocker can probably tell you how poorly paid we are in this system.. We only get paid for school terms - not for holiday time.. and our pay rates are very very low.. we are only paid for overtime that is ...

we use filter paper.. make 2 cuts towars the centre of the circle.. to form a 'tab', then place filter paper on top of the beaker contining the solute (water or ethanol) then make sure the tab is immersed into the solute... simple...

I claim for travelling expenses for shopping, washing of clothes, safety prescription glasses, shoes because they have to be 'safe' ones for Lab, thats about all we can claim isnt it?? I have been told that I can claim for the things that I buy out of my own pocket, that the school doesnt re-imburse...

We have lead shelves on top of the wooden ones... wonder what the safety issue would be with so much lead exposed???
