Re: WHAT are new rules on culturing micro-organisms
So of course my next search came up with an answer... but now I need to prove that bacillus subtilis is actually what we are growing in the peppercorn infusion... do you know where I can find that info?

Re: WHAT are new rules on culturing micro-organisms
If the plates are taped around the edges after exposure and never untaped and then autoclaved, is the dreadful stuff grown from door handles etc ok? Will be trying peppercorns for biol but Yr8 microbes will probably still be looking at what grows from what and where!!!! I think that it is not so mu...

Re: pressure cooker
If anyone is still looking for a pressure cooker, deals direct have one on sale for today only (26/2/13) for $49.95 plus delivery (usually less than $10). Anyway, just though I'd let you know. Can't guarantee quality or anything as I haven't got one. It's only a 6L but for some schools that's probab...

Westlab recently had some on sale. We are still awaiting their arrival so I can't comment on the quality. Check out their website and see if they are still on sale.

Re: WHAT are new rules on culturing micro-organisms
Jumping back to this peppercorn infusion, what antiseptics are good for killing it? I'm hoping to use it this week (Friday) for a prac. The kids test two different antiseptics on their plates. I think usually we do dettol and betadine. Would either/both of these kill the bacteria from the peppercorn?

Re: Risk Assessments
I have signs that say "please leave" laminated and stuck to my fridge and also "finished". The idea is that if they haven't finished they put the please leave sign on the tray then swap it for finished when they are done. Usually they forget the finish sign though... I print out ...

Re: Stocktake program
Ok, so now for my next question for any SciList gurus out there... When entering chemicals, it is asking me to put in a hazard code but I can't work out how to do this!! Where do you add the codes so that they come up in the list?

Re: DOTS on Chemicals
I just got a disk in the mail from Omega Scientific. It's a trial version of a GHS labelling system. Looks much easier than anything else I've seen so far with regards to labelling and that's just from looking at the paperwork! But the down side is to purchase the full system is $295 (site license) ...

Re: First day back and not happy
vanilla fridge wipe - give it a really good wipe over then give a few sprays with the door nearly shut and slam all the spray inside. Keep the door shut for a while and then put some bicarb soda in a petri dish (no lid) and put it somewhere that it won't get knocked over. It should absorb the smell ...
