Re: Paramecium

Hi How long can you keep the infusion going? Do you have to add more of anything after the initial set-up, to keep it going for a long time? I'm just starting my first ever hay infusion today.... quite excited ... hope I get lots of critters \:D/ . We have a small creek running through the school so...

Hi Ellice,
Do you work full-time at TIGS? I'm part-time here at Cedars - would like more hours but couldn't manage to do full time somewhere else for only one term.

Re: Radioactive RA

Thanks Lisa - I discovered that after I had written this question (i"d been trying under chemicals). Still I am surprised that the RA for radioactive sources is surprisingly lacking in specifics in handling, so will be doing a SWP. The risk assess site is an on-line site which does the RA's for...

Hi. Has anyone out their done a RA or SWP for their radioactive sources? We have just subscribed to RiskAssess but they don't seem to have the radioactive sources in their data base.

Re: Changing flower colours

This sounded so fun I thought I'd have a go. Left some flowers in universal indicator over night. This morning I took a couple of petals off and dropped acid / base on them and left them for awhile. They have definately changed colour - NaOH = yellow, HCL + red. I had two types of flowers. The white...

Wollongong Labbies, Microscope repairs

I have a microscope needing repair and am wondering if Wollongong labbies have any suggestions as to who to use? If I need to get someone down from Sydney, do any of you also need repairs done so we could share travel expenses?

Re: permanent hair slides

Hi I have made up the Grey and Weiss mountant twice now, but the stuff refuses to dry on the slides. Can anyone give me some advice as to what I might be doing wrong? I heated it for well over the 10mins and the slides have been sitting on the bench for ages (the first lot several months) but they a...

Re: St Mary's Conference 2009

Hi As a new comer to the conference I am just wonderiing about parking at the School? Is there plenty of parking, or a particular entrance we need to come to? Is there anything about local traffic conditions we should be aware of driving there? Will it be obvious when we arrive where we have to go? ...

Hi Robb,
Have you performed amino acids on a basic home-made electrophoresis unit? If so, what aa's did you actually use?

electrophoresis

Hi
Has anyone used anything more interesting for electrophoresis than food colours? We only have the home made equipment and follow the Heinmann forensic science prac. Is there a way of easily doing DNA or proteins with this simple set-up?

bone preservation

Hi

One of the students found a jaw bone on an excursion to the beach - looks likely to be from a dog. I have been asked to preserve it. What is the best way to go about this? It is pretty old - no flesh, but is a bit smelly. Still has a few teeth attached.
