Re: Sulphur chunks
Just do a search for sulphur roll on this site. There are hints for making your own roll or buying it in from suppliers. ChemSupply is currently $104 for a kilo. That would probably see your science dept through to the next century, maybe . Other science suppliers may come in cheaper. Have a look.

Re: Lighting Bunsens
I have six matches to a box and give the teacher a ziplock bag (snacksize) with loose matches just in case the kids decide they want to be pyromaniacs. It's then up to the teacher to keep check on what is used. My biggest bugbear with matches is that kids think an empty matchbox has to be chucked in...

Re: calcium granules
I had a couple of very old tins of calcium that had oxidised. Similar in appearance to what you describe. It was going to take too long for me to neutralise any possible reactive material (in the fume hood) that might have been in the tins so I left them until we had a chemical pickup. Much simpler ...

Same here. Once plates are set I pop them into ziplock sandwich bags (about five plates to a bag) and store them upside down in the fridge.

I think the label you are looking for may be Potassium triiodide solution. It comes up when you select iodine and it gives you choices. I'm happy for someone to say I'm wrong.

Clag Clear Gum glue in 5L containers works really well - try Officeworks. Used to be able to get this glue from SBA Office National but they now carry a different brand of clear glue. Probably still worth a try though. Slime Recipe : 25ml clear clag gum 6 pumps of Sorbolene hand cream (with 10% glyc...

Re: Potassium Permanganate
I have a small quantity which rarely gets used. Although the Laboratory Manual by B. Dungey does mention using it for filtering potassium permanganate when you prepare a solution. I get a little paranoid that one day some teacher is going to see the word wool ignore the fact that it has glass writte...

Although most of my chemicals are from ChemSupply if I have any feral chemicals that I can't get SDS from the supplier named on the bottle I will use SDS from ChemSupply or any other source as long as it is in date. I have just been on the Thermo Fisher site and it is unwieldy and time consuming to ...

Basically the ingredient that is in products like Napisan or the Coles or Woolies nappy treatment, which are far cheaper than Napisan. As yet my chem teacher has not g...

If you are doing blood spatter for Forensic science this works for me. 175g corn flour 75ml water 175ml golden syrup 3 teaspoons of red food colour 1 teaspoon green food colour Mix together. If it isn't splattery enough add a little more water. I had some of this made up and put the leftovers in a g...

If the name Scharlau came up for the safety data sheet for 32% hydrochloric acid instead of a Chem Supply named safety data sheet then that will be okay to use. Chem Supply distributes the Scharlau brand.
