Thanks for your clarification Jazz and Sunray.
Next dumb question....
GoldFFX gives an option of selecting "Vendor's SDS" Is the "Vendors SDS" from Chemwatch good enough, or does it have to actually get posted to me from the vendor??

Re: chemical Register
I am sure you are right Matt, but my school actually part owns the Denbigh company (satarted 20 years ago by one of our Technology staff!) and they seem to busy to make any alterations that I suggest. Maybe the request needs to come from outside. From one of our "Paying customers"!! cheers...

Re: Potassium Dichromate
Thanks All I am glad that I don't have to get rid of it just yet, as it is still occasionally used. I did check the CSIS manual, Dime, but my SCIS was copyrighted in 1999, and still only has the info that was in it in 1999. Does anyone know if there is a new CSIS out yet? I guess the CSIS info expir...

Potassium Dichromate
My (Acting) HT has just returned from HSC Marking, and told me that somebody told her that Potassium Dichromate is on the "Banned Chemicals" list. I know that we are not allowed to burn it anymore for the Volcano experiment, but has anybody else heard that it is a "Banned Chemical&quo...

Re: chemical Register
I am in a private school. We use the "Denbigh Admin" program which has a Chemical Register Program. Unfortunately, the Denbigh people did not think of putting a column for MSDS Expiry Date!! I keep suggesting it. It may come (???)

Re: Labelling unknowns
I am not sure if it is a good idea or not, but I label the bottles normally, and then put another blank label over the top with the "A", "B", "C", etc. That way, if there is an emergency where it is needed to know what the chemical is, then it is just a matter of removi...

Re: engineering studies trial papers
Yes I suppose you are correct, but as no one was offering it at our school ,theSciernce HT was trying to cater to our large population of kids with poor english skills, we have an Intenstive English Centre which tops up our students a couple of times a year. So engineering studies is a great altern...

Re: ALERT Manganese Dioxide
I think that is how the "Elephant's Tooth Paste" experiment works, isn't it. You add a bit of detergent to catch the O2 bubbles that make foam.

Cyclone in a bottle? You can get those little joiners from Science Toy type shops to screw two soft drink bottles together end to end. Coloured water looks pretty. Our little kiddies love it. We have an iPhone app called iSeisomometer. If you can connect your iPad/iPhone/iPod to a projector, the kid...

Re: diffusion-nice smell
My first thought was butric acid. But a bit of trivia I learnt this morning. You all know Formic acid smells like dead ants, well Italian for ant is formica Back in the "Old Days" Mum's kitchen bench tops were made of Formica. ( a bit like "Laminex") I don't remember it smelling...

After ruining many $ worth of Carbon electrodes, I was able to convince my Chem teacher to use COPPER electrodes. The experiment seems to work just as well, and who cares if your Copper electrodes get coated with a layer of Copper? We cut up our copper electrodes from a sheet of copper using the Gui...

Re: Resistors
If there is a "standard resistor" that is commonly found in schools, it would probably be the old "Water Filled" resistors in the clear plastic jar, similar to what Serrata sells as "Resistance in Clear Case" (Catalog Numbers 1011015 - 1011022). (about $8 - $9 each) The...

Thanks Dave. I'll give that a go. (It is more information than what I had!)
Is there a difference between Indigo Carmine used as a Microscopy stain and Indigo Carmine used as a pH indicator?
Thanks again

How do I make up INDIGO CARMINE stain?
Hi all, and I hope you are all having a good start to the New Year. I need to make up some Indigo Carmine microscopy stain, as my supply is getting low. I have a little bottle of powder, but my "Bible" ("The Laboratory", by Dungey) does not seem to have a recipe for making it up....

Re: First day back and not happy
Many years ago, David, I was in Maintenance when the Science Freezer was turned off for the Christmas holidays. Somehow, the cleanup job went up the hierarchy to the front office and then down the chain, and settled on Maintenance, which meant ME. A few years later, after I was a Labbie, the same th...
