Re: CSIS training for new and long-term staff

I really hope so Labbie....I voiced my concerns about the lack of guidance I am feeling ATM about practical realistic ways to label droppers and tiny containers of Chems to comply with GHS labeling requirements and the contridictory advice we all seem to be getting regarding this. I like CSIS ..it h...

Re: How do you store ...

My offsider I share my job with wraps rubber bands around the ends of thermometers...stops them rolling off benches. We keep them in drawer in th boxes they came in , minus the plastic tubes.......they get stored with the straws and are good for dropping KMnO4 Crystals into beakers for convection cu...

Re: CSIS training for new and long-term staff

If you are a lab assistant in a NSW DEC school, have you seen the current issue of SchoolBiz (through the portal). Under the heading PROGRAM UPDATES, there is an article in relation to a review of the CSIS package inviting employees to participate in a survey. I completed it this morning, it only t...

Re: labeling old chemicals in store

It typically takes nearly an hour to print one label on Chemwatch ....because the NSW DET computer system is so bloody slow , I spend most of the time watching the 'doing something" wheel going round and round , only to find what I'm seaching for is the wrong one , so onto the next one and so o...

Re: cloud chamber

Thanks Sunray18 At my other school I found two of these Silform Diffusion Cloud Chambers in almost usable condition ....but they looked like they haven't been used in years . The radiation sources were nowhere to be seen . One box still had the original 90V battery in it but it was dead flat and som...

Re: labeling old chemicals in store

Did you go bigmack? That was my understanding - to cover up old labels. No superbug I didn't go so perhaps I should not be commenting. You're confident in your understanding of what you heard , and so are others .I can't say who has it right and I don't care about that . But I am now confused . I'm...

Re: labeling old chemicals in store

This sort of thing is quite annoying ....how can a presenter address such a basic concept as covering labels yet it come across so obviously different to people that attend . When is the new CSIS coming out ? It is now the middle of February and we still have no Black and white so go by and the cloc...

Interesting to hear two of you have them . Its obviously a school apparatus then . I like the idea of a coffee perculator :cheesy: Intersetingly the only google help was that the mob that made them also made anesthetic machines . I had wondered if perhaps it was a crude Chloroform generator . Put al...

Found this interesting piece in the bottom of the Physics Lab . Dosen't necessarily mean its got any thing to do with Physics ....or for that matter School science equipment . It consists of two equal sized copper tanks that each have a stop cock ( Tap ) on them . Between the two tanks is a dividing...

Re: Where to buy liquid nitregon

....have to have the top open so it vents .. To clarify .....the thermos flask has a screw on lid but it has a pressure relief vent. Was told to always have the vent open so it does not build up pressure and explode as the Nitrogen slowly warms inside . You want to get it just before its needed as ...

Re: Mineral and rock safety alert

Just went through our boxes from "geological specimen supplies" Turramarra ...these kits are dated 1986-1990. I could not find any of the mentioned samples from the WHS sheet so can I be confident that these are OK ? I found these guys on the WEB but when I ring the number (02) 9488 8162 t...
