Re: FUME CUPBOARDS
Hi Sue I used to pick up chemicals from our local supplier until one of our Regional Technicians warned me that it could invalidate my car insurance in the event of an accident. My insurer confirmed this so I only transport chemicals when absolutely necessary, and only those of the solid, non-schedu...

Hi Annette,
You could also check out Feb 2008 Choice magazine which will probably be in your school's library. There is a table of results of various tests on some 20-odd dishwashers.
Cheers,
Fran

Hi Estelle,
In WA we are not required to do written risk assessments as a matter of course ... YET!
Out of interest and to be aware of probable future requirements, may I too request a copy:
fran@tuartcollege.wa.edu.au
Many thanks,
Fran

Good for you Rosalie, it will help lighten the load a little bit now. I had to fight for a dishwasher at my last school as the HoD thought it was a "frivolous purchase" (his exact words). The registrar kindly got one for me as a parting gift when she transferred. Here I have a dishwasher b...

Re: Pepsin & egg white suspension practical
Thanks for the advice Lisa. Yesterday I tried a search using pepsin and egg white as key words. Today I tried saliva experiments and came up with the same results, give or take a post. The only experiment I can see is the attachment using junket, which I already have. Perhaps I'm missing something. ...

Pepsin & egg white suspension practical
Hi everyone,
I'm sure I saw an enzyme experiment using egg white suspension and pepsin on Chemtalk. Have had a quick look through the forums but drawn a blank.
Has anyone got a copy they can post here please.
Many thanks in advance,
Fran

Re: Tapers
Hi Lita
I gave up with tapers - too much mess on the glassware, benches and floors!
I used to buy kebab sticks, but I now buy wooden applicator sticks from Livingstone:
WAPPSTP 2 x 150mm Box 1000 $5.12 (inc GST)
Cheap as chips and so much easier.
Regards,
Fran

Hi Ian
I'd really appreciate it if you could post details for obtaining "Wave Window" please.
Sounds like a great alternative to lifting heavy CRO's off the shelves.
Cheers

Re: Glass Jars for chemicals
Hi Annette, A couple of local suppliers who may be able to help are: Silverlock in Canning Vale - good for 100, 200 and 500 mL amber screw cap bottles. Officemax 2007/2008 catalogue, page 580 - has imitation (Chinese?) Schott bottles from $3.29 for 100 mL to $8.28 for 1L. I bought some of the 250's ...

Re: Job Description
I can think of only one reason for changing Barbara’s job title from Laboratory Assistant to Support Services: to downplay the complexity of her position. Then the powers that be can lump all support staff together under one umbrella with one as-low-as-possible pay scale. I do not think for o...

Re: Welcome Back to 2008!
Hi Ian and Andrew, I've been back since January 7, but by choice. I moved here at the start of last year and still have much to do so am taking full advantage of the peace and quiet without teachers and students, as I guess you're doing too. Helps make the start of the year a little less chaotic for...

Re: Resistivity putty?
Hi Nicole, I can remember using resistivity putty many years ago in physics experiments. It was black and had the same consistency as plasticine. Had a bit of a look on the net and discovered it's also known as carbon putty. Perhaps an electrical wholesaler, one that's been around for a while though...

Re: removing black permanent texta from whilte labcoats
I use lemon essence (Queen's) for removing graffiti/scribblings from the lab benches. It removes pencil, texta, liquid paper, biro and just about anything else the students can come up with. May be worth a try on a small patch of labcoat. Great thing about it is it's cheap, smells good and is non-to...

Don't know about the requirements in NSW, but in WA, as far as I know, ONLY flammable liquids are allowed to be stored in flammable liquid cabinets.

Recipe forum
Is there a section for recipes, or is it possible to have a new forum created for recipes please? I'd also like to see what the prac involves so I don't waste ...
