Re: Another Colour Coding problem!

Ok I'm bringing this to the front of the queue again!!! I know some of you other labbies are responsible for all the chemicals throughout the school, so what do you do in instances like this? Do the teachers write RA's to cover themselves for products which are classified for older Yr groups or are ...

Re: Another Colour Coding problem!

We are an Independent School so will not be required to register with DET but also I cannot access further infomation from them. Also my HOS, and the rest of the school , depend on my "expertise" (haha :cheesy: ) to tell them what they are and are not allowed to use. In the CSIS manual, so...

Another Colour Coding problem!

Hi everyone I'm once again looking for advice. The TAS dept use solvents and laquers for their woodworking projects. They have gone to products which claim to be less toxic than what they were using previously as they want Yrs 7-12 to be able to use these things. However it still contains toluene an...

Re: hazardous materials

here is an example... SELLEYS POLYGLAZE WASH AND WAX Supplier's MSDS says "not classified as hazardous according to criteria of Safe Work Australia; NONHAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE." Chemwatch says "HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE. NON-DANGEROUS GOODS. According to NOHSC Criteria, and ADG Code." I ha...

Re: Lab Coats

My advice... don't go for the cheapest brand..... see my earlier post where I had carefully worked out how many of each size we should get only to have then all come back basically the same size with only a small difference in length (the medium was bigger than the large!). We sent them back and bou...

hazardous materials

Hi Everyone When doing your hazardous materials register, do you go by the manufacturer's MSDS or by Chemwatch? I find that many substances are listed as non-hazardous on the manufacturer's MSDS but are classified hazardous (but with no diamonds) by Chemwatch. In fact chemwatch seems to classify jus...

Re: egg membrane

What do you mean you've used Golden Syrup?? To remove the eggshell? We had 2 eggs in 1M HCL but it didn't work very well, which is why I put the question up. I've now got some in vinegar - hope that works better. Yes they are for the osmosis experiment.

I have the manufacturer's MSDS but it is not very helpful in determining the user group.

Re: ChemFFX

The manifest should just transfer ok, it just seems incredibly difficult to actually do anything with it. My user name and password also changed even though they tried to tell me it was the same - (changed from capital to lower case letters)

Re: ChemFFX

I have been pulling my hair out over ChemFX. It is exceedingly slow. I can add stuff to my manifest but trying to delete materials is painful. I have been sucessful in getting Vendors MSDS but have no idea of the point of the "short" and "long" gold. Yeah I feel like this as well...

anatomy models

Aldi has anatomy models for sale this week - $6 each. They are small but are made of good quality plastic. One of the teachers asked me to get a few to use as prizes but when he saw them he decided we should keep them. They all come apart eg: the skull is made up of 39 pieces. As well as the skull t...

Re: RiskAssess software

We have just started using the Risk Assess site so are still getting used to it. It is certainly an easy way to RA's but still have to get the teachers to actually look and sign them. It will be very useful when they get into the habit of doing it before the lesson so i can look up what is required ...

Re: Microbiology

Thanks... so we should be ok to go ahead with the toilet/fingernail expts.
The only problem I have with the CSIS manual is that I am never sure if the info is out-of-date and that the protocols have been superceded - which is why i wanted to check on what others were doing.

Lab coats

So I finally convinced the powers that be that we need to have at least one full set of lab coats. Spent some time last week looking through catalogues, finding the cheapest and deciding how many we needed of each size - then sent the order away for 30 coats. Was pleasantly surprised when the packag...
