Re: HCL
It is a very good rule to always use Distilled water for Diluting anything. It is one of the purest waters we can use.

Re: HCL
I think in this case Breakdown, means if you are going to Dilute DOWN to another M. Say you had 6M eg 500ml of 6M add 2.500ml of distilled water for 1M.

Re: Ammonium Phosphate?
Sorry you also asked what is the difference between.
Tribasic has 3 Replaceable Hydrogen atoms
MonoBasic has 1 Replaceable Hydrogen atom
Di Basic has 2 Replaceable Hydrogen atoms
So each one would have a different Molecular weight
Do that help any more

Re: Ammonium Phosphate?
From the CSIS Voleume 2 appendices page 38 Ammonium Dihydrogen Phosphate is a mineral nutrient for yeast culture media. It is also known as Ammonium Dihydrogen Orthophosphate Ammonium biphosphate, & Ammonium phosphate Monobasic, Cas No 7722-76-1. So perhaps these names where once used. Hope this...

Frog's lizards, snakes in persertives in a jar, also seems also bring the students to the glass cabnet to look see. These cabnets are locked, so we do not seems to have any thing go missing. Dried flowers cut or pressed ( although they dry out) do add a little interest. Their are some really good po...

Re: Cobalt Chloride Paper
So far so good. Remove the drying trays from the oven while still hot, and with forceps, place the strips in a air tight wide neck jar, amber glass is better, with a good lid. Put some Silica in the bottom, Blue & Pink beads, they will help keep the Moisturiser out of the Cobalt Chloride paper. ...

Re: how to remove waterglass marks from glass
Try soaking them in diluted HCL. WHen the students have experiments and they use HCL, I just put it in a large 2.5 bottle, labeled unknown CONC. HCL USED FOR CLEANING . I top it up with what ever HCL is left in beakers etc. And I use this HCL on hard stains, fill the test-tube up or beaker, bottle, ...

Perhaps a search in Chemtalk, may enlighten you. Junket, was taken off the shelves at one time. Junket can now be purchased at Health Food stores, Naturopaths, IGA Supermarkers. I have a fryer, should you wish to have a copy.

I would suggest you put that glass container in the waste collection, to be picked up at a later date. Just label it with the contents. Our bible in NSW does not have Uranyl Nitrate in it, so I can not help you. HCL should be Neutralised first with Sodium Bicarbonate, then Dilute Down Sink to waste....

Re: CuSO4
I have always put sulfuric Acid in our Copper Sulfate, I believe it keeps it longer. Or perhaps I have got it mixed up a little. Copper Sulfate pentahydrate has a much longer shelf life. But putting Acid into must do some thing else.
