Re: Safety glasses hygiene
I still love and use the Milton Antibacterial solution suggestion that was posted here. A quick soak, allow to dry on a towel and the job is done. I do it at the end of each term. Works for me...

Always be wary where you get the student to stand with their hands on the dome. One teacher here reminds us all of how he had a student stand with hands on the dome, but didn't realize the bench the VDG was on had metal handles on the cupboards at groin level. 8O Thus this student ended up in a foet...

Re: Laboratory safety manual or booklet.
You probably will find pictures here in chemtalk if you do a search. I can't remember the topic name but some-one supplied some photos of what could happen. They definitely were thought provoking.

Re: White Boards
I had been chasing up Ideapaints earlier this year. It was a frustrating experience because they would not quote me how a can of paint would cost, they kept coming back with how big is your project? The answer to that is it all depends on the cost of the paint! (Hmmmm feels like the chicken or the e...

Re: White Boards
Some teachers here use kero to clean white boards. It must work because they come back for more! Perhaps a wipe over with kero will put a light film back on the white board?

Re: Phenolphthalein Agar
I don't think it is too soon to make up the agar. I believe it says in "The Laboratory" that the longer it has to sit sit the colour gets stronger or something to that effect.

One of the teachers here puts small bits in water in a glass dish on an overhead projector. He then drips some phenolphthlein in as well. It projects quite well.

Re: certificate for lighting a bunsen
We give the students a "Bunsen Licence" once they show they can light a bunsen correctly. It has their name on it and is signed by their teacher. It is the size of a credit card and is laminated. I am not sure where they keep the original. But you wud be able to knock one up, I'm sure... l...
