Re: St Mary's Conference over for yet an other year

No, I promise I will log on to Chemtalk whenever possible!

I'll reveal where I'm off to and what I'll be doing Friday as some of us break up then.

Re: St Mary's Conference over for yet an other year

Just made it and it works a treat! Thanks for sharing it guys! I would have loved to be at St Marys to put faces to the many names here but my time here is nearly up and I have too many things to do before I go. :-( On the plus side, the interviews were today and you may have a new member of chemtal...

Re: spiny leaf insects

My English neighbour has just sent an email stream to her friends in England (and me) proudly showing the before and after shots of a beautiful female stick insect that she bravely sprayed.

She being a pom thought it was a spider.

NOT HAPPY JAN!!!!

Electrical Safety Picture

Was sent this picture this morning, I hope that power board isn't live or it won't be the snags on the BBQ that cook!

These guys (poms obviously) are asking for trouble!

Ha! What does it explain Liz?!!! I did do this when I was about 5, but it was a toaster, not a power point. I've had mad hair and a good tan ever since! :w00t:

Re: Where did this year go???

Things could be worse I suppose, you could live in Lithgow!

Australia isn't a bad place, you just have to get used to living 55km from the sun!

Re: chemicals down the drain??

Contact your councils waste water dept. if in doubt. Different areas have different tollerances depending on the facilities they have to treat waste water. Hunter water were very helpful & friendly when enquired with and they had leaflets specifically for schools about what exactly can go down t...

Re: NSW DET pay increase for SASS

Hooray! Great to hear it's finally gone through Mother! 88c per hour adds up + the backpay like you say to the beginning of July, just in time for Christmas. :w00t: :D I wonder if the annual leave loading was added into this pay or will it be closer to us breaking up at the end of term? That's quite...

I thought maybe they wanted to keep the body intact for display - minus the powder.

Re: Rocket Engine

Small quantities, not exceeding 25 kilograms on any one occasion, of blasting powder or other nitrate mixtures (including a mixture of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil) may be rendered harmless by immersing them in water, bagging then disposing of into the garbage or incinerator if available.

Re: Hand held disolved oxygen meters...advice required

Most good aquarium shops will stock these or something like them. These retail around $32. Expensive but we only use 1 maybe 2 a week. easy 5 in one test aquarium pharm 5 in one test is so easy. Dip the stick in pull it out and you just did a test for pH, KH, gh, nitrite and nitrate . It takes longe...

Re: Hand held disolved oxygen meters...advice required

If you have data loggers - as Ocker says, it's worth investing in that manufacturers probe for accuracy. We also use 5 in 1 test strips that also have pH, nitrates, nitrites etc. for the students to test our fish tanks. Quick & easy to use but like pH test paper will not give you a figure, just ...

Queensland Storms

I hope the worst of it missed our chemtalk family up there in South East Queensland. There's been plenty on the news showing the destruction from the big storm that hit Brisbane - I was watching it form up and head east south-east via weather radar and thought that's going to be a whopper. This is t...

Re: bar code scanners

We used them at my old school and persevered with it for about 12 months then got rid of it to the library, we just didn't have enough equipment to warrant it. We use both fixed and handheld at my other place of work (Laser Imaging) for stock control of printing material and following print job queu...

Re: bar code scanners

- Costly and the kids eat the labels. Only worthwhile if you have LOADS of equipment and a lot of identical equipment that you need to keep track of. Time consuming to set up properly.

+Quick way of stocktaking if the labels aren't messed with.

Quite a setup! Our fish taste like how the single type of pellet we use smells. Compared to a naturally raised fish of the same species, well the taste just doesn't compare - Barra included! We tried the experiment again last week with Luderick (Black fish) and it was hard to imagine it was the same...
