Re: Just when you think you've heard it all.....

Better than a staff member I suppose. I had a teacher ask what a round and a flat bottomed flask was once.

Re: NSW DET pay increase for SASS

1st pay in November (13th) is when the PSA and DET agree the 1st 4% increase + backpay to the 1st of July will be paid - 21 weeks of backpay - 10.5 payperiods. Depending on your rate approx $489 after tax. $575 before. Now this, I believe, is only for NSW Dept. Of Education & Training staff. Oth...

Re: Yet another chemwatch question

I alternate between:

https://detwww.det.nsw.edu.au/assetmana ... chemicals/

and

https://chemwatchdb.det.nsw.edu.au/default.htm

for my msds. Between them by doing a search for the strength you are after covers all my solution labeling/msds needs.

Re: data logger probe storage

We have our Data Harvest probes in clear sealed tupperware containers. All the temp probes are together, light gates in another etc with a label on the lid with what the probe is and the equipment stored in each container for quick reference by the staff. pH and dissolved oxygen do have their indivi...

Re: New updated training manual

My office has already ordered ours! Also, Nickyw - your from a non DET school and there is no reason why someone from interstate cannot order and use the manual - for instance, lots of us use the WA regional lab tech site from elsewhere. Download the nondet attachments I've posted above. There is no...

Blimey Smiley! You wouldn't want to sit still too long up there, you'd be carried off! If I can get away with a lunatic goat for company, I think it would be more than reasonable for you to request a Spiney Ant-Eater. I'm sure Q-Stores stock them. Here's one from their catalogue - product number 148...

Re: Non Dangerous Chemical storage

Apart from detergents/cleaning agents, if it's got an MSDS to that affect, keep it in the chem store. Others like sugars etc do not need to be locked up, just kept in a dry storeroom.

Re: What do you do when you KNOW the teacher is wrong

I like earthworms! Well, if that's the case Mushroom, resort to plan 'Z' which is only to be used when every other avenue has been exhausted. Next time this member of staff goes off on a wrong tangent in front of a class - a well placed and vocal "RUBBISH!!!" or "NONSENSE!!!" whe...

Re: What do you do when you KNOW the teacher is wrong

Don't correct them in front of students or staff, just mention it to them at a later more appropriate time (while it's still fresh in their memory) so they can let their class know the correct details. I've come across this a few times and the teachers can either be really thankfull or annoyed at yo...

Richard The PSA has been advised that the pay increase for SAS Staff should be through in the salary of 13 Nov 2008 and its to be backdated to 1 July 2008. Re: NSW DET pay increase for SASS

Of course it's up to every individual, some schools used to insist you were a member before employing you, but for obvious reasons they cannot do that.

I just thought our union had a bigger following than that.

Re: NSW DET pay increase for SASS

I've heard nothing of any trade offs - certainly nothing in writing from the DET, the PSA and the Industrial Commision courts who such a document would come from. We in schools aren't losing any leave entitlements. From the PSA's point of view (a call to Irene @ Sydney office yesterday afternoon) it...

Re: NSW DET pay increase for SASS

The taxed rate remains the same as it's something that was due to be in place at the beginning of July. We won't be taxed any heavier whether paid in our regular pay or as backpay. That was something our union wanted clarified by the NSW Govt. Why should we lose what we gained through our employers ...

Re: NSW DET pay increase for SASS

Just spoke to Irene at the PSA main office in Sydney. It has been approved by the Industrial Relations courts and will either be the last pay in October or very early November with all owed backpay to the beginning of July this year. The longer it takes DET salaries to set the wheels in motion, the ...
