Apart from detergents/cleaning agents, if it's got an MSDS to that affect, keep it in the chem store. Others like sugars etc do not need to be locked up, just kept in a dry storeroom.

Don't correct them in front of students or staff, just mention it to them at a later more appropriate time (while it's still fresh in their memory) so they can let their class know the correct details.
