Re: what weird/quirky things do your teachers ask of you?
At a High School (7-10) that I worked at, I used to be in charge of cutting spare locker keys and then we moved to combination locks and I was in charge of trying to make those work and make the students and teachers know how they worked. I was also required to paint the wooden locker doors and repa...

Re: Spectrometer
Hello MissKat and others I did a bit of a search online and found this site and document, which has a little more information about the IEC flame absorption spectrometer/colorimeter than the actual IEC site: https://www.chemtalk.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=451/wp-content/uploads/datasheets/LQ379...

I found some precut CO2 dragsters through Kookaburra Educational Resources, but they come it a kit. Have not found any other suppliers but I have only looked quickly. https://www.kookaburra.com.au/pitsco-me ... a-wood-kit
Hope this is a starting point

Automatically Logging Out
Hello
For some reason the forum keeps automatically logging me out when I click on Board Index or Home when I want to go and read another forum.
Just thought I would let you know and see if there was any suggestions for a solution to this issue.
Thanks
AG

Gloves
Hi all, I know this is ChemTalk by Westlab and I am not having a go at them and I also know we are in a pandemic situation. However does anyone know a decent supplier of disposable gloves ATM? I am thinking more of Nitrile Gloves and Westlab seem to have 2 brands available and 1 is only available in...

What is the name of your roles
I am just interested in seeing what other States call the role of 'Laboratory Technician'
Because I am possibly looking at changing states at some time in the future and would love to know what to actually look for on Government job sites etc.
Thanks in advance

STEM 2020 On Demand: Strategies for a Rapidly Changing World
Not sure if anyone is interested or even knows about this conference: This online conference starts on the 27th April 2020 and will be available until end of May. You need to search for STEM 2020 on Demand in your favourite search engine or hopefully this link https://stem2020.com.au/ Great list of ...

Seeking Help
I have a few Griffin & George Control Transformers with Bulb Holders (XFU-520-504U) for use with Spectral Lamps and cannot figure out how to use the shields that are meant to be used with this. The Physics Teacher cannot figure it out either. I hope someone can provide some guidance. I tried to ...

Re: Rubber Stoppers
Hi all late to the party of the Westlab Stoppers, so late I just ordered them today. This is after the Chemistry Class trying to find the Molar Volume of Hydrogen and the gas syringes leaking, most likely from the degraded rubber stoppers attached. However, as they wish to do it again tomorrow I hav...

Re: Work load
I cannot help much as I am in Tasmania, but wow that sounds like a huge job for just 1 lab tech. I can tell you I have previously done tasks outside my science role (cooking bbqs, repairing lockers, cutting locker keys and cutting locks when students lose their keys) but eventually, I said enough wa...

Re: First aid kits in prep rooms
We have a wall mounted metal cabinet in the prep room and also a portable 'tackle' type box one that is available also. They are similarly stocked as others and checked by one of the Teacher Assistants every term unless we say we used something specific like all the tape and then it is restocked as ...

Re: Quadrats?
Wow quadrats, Teacher cannot remember what she used last year and considering I was here and I told her what we had she was not impressed. We had wooden squares, with bolts and nuts in corners, that could be collapsed and have had since I started here. She said this year that they were not acceptabl...

Re: PERFORMANCE AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS
Go to CONASTA if you can, I went to my first one in Sydney this year and while it is aimed at Teachers, there are a number of workshops that are useful for Lab Techs to do. Fire polishing is what its called I believe, just don't pick up the glass stirring rod by the wrong end. I have put down visiti...

Great to have it back, although I had to send an email to find my username as I needed that to reset my password, as I last used it in 2011
