Re: Soft Iron Core
We've used mild steel bolts from hardware shops.
Also, I just read on a forum that cutting up and bundling lengths of coat hanger wire works as an iron core.

Re: CRO service
Hi Marg, We use an app on our iPads and it works well (no lugging the CRO around either!). Here is the link. There is another add on Signal generator app that needs to be purchased to allow it to produce sounds of a certain frequency. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/signalscope/id284781777?mt=8 Chee...

Re: Exposure to contaminated petri dishes
I don't let them out of the classroom any more....too many swabs of dirt etc!
Now they swab keyboards, light switches, handrails etc. and we always get good plates. Sub-culturing is forbidden.

Sue are the problems within the DEC or Chemwatch?
I've had FXX for some time and it's a thorough-going pain in the b*m to use!

Re: Insurance travelling while shopping for school
I looked into this and my insurance company (4 letters, starting with N) assure me that my comprehensive car insurance will not be invalidated if I'm driving doing school duties; as far as they're concerned it's part of my life and the people I spoke to were surprised at my question. I'm in a system...

Re: New Chemwatch for schools GOLD FXX
From Chemwatch...email them for information.
The DVD contains everything we need (and then some)and loads straight onto your computer.
I've checked, and all the info (SDS, labels etc) is the same as the web versions just a lot easier to use.
I think it's about $160 per year.

It's a nightmare to use, and the labels, when you can find them, are ugly (do they not have upper case at Chemwatch?).
I think I'll continue to use the CD (updated quarterly and waaaaay easier).
Cheers
