Re: Radioactive Sources
From the course at St Marys on Thur & Friday a Steve Nugent, told us, we should have a log book, so each teacher signs it out and back in. A new box should be purchased each 5-7 years. But you can not throw out the old metal red box, keep it for collection. Gema should be in lead foil. Hope this...

IF you are a DET in NSW, their would be a assets register on OASIS, speak to your SAM Senior Admin Manager, or ask a fellow SAO School Admin Officer, these are printed out each year, for each dept. If an item is over $500.00 it should be put on the School Asset register. Going back in years it use t...

Another idea is ask the Cooking class, if they would swap classrooms for that period. At this time in term, it may work well. We do, as long as the Science assistant (ME) cleans up after wards.

No you are not silly. Great point. We have a class room in our Science block, and it is used for Food only, or Non experiments only. It is much smaller and has no fittings like the other labs. It also has a few computers in it. At another school, they use to have special beakers & jugs in Scienc...

Re: risk assessment
I would replace the Summary's with Mini MSDS, their was a long period of time, when Chemwatch's Mini MSDS were not working, and they advised us to use the Summary for the time being. Check the date of ISSUE, not the printed date. If the date of issue is different to the MSDS you have, it needs to ha...

Yes Tracy, I have also been told that one, but on a OH&S course, told again, that it is up to us Labbie's to maintain the RA's & MSDS, I put out Mini MSDS with Hazo stuff. It is the teachers that must do the RA's they are to be checked by Head teachers, the MSDS are up to us. That informatio...

Our sand was in the fire buckets, that came with the school, I guess. So just a small amount to wash, but had never been asked for this before.

Thanks

Re: acids in plastic bottles
Some times on the MSDS, it has transport details. Packaged in plastic, storage glass. I do not have a fume cupboard (as Yet) I have two on their way, which year they'll arrive I do not know. And I have some bottles arrived in plastic, awaiting the fume cupboard so I can decant them into glass. Of co...
