Re: risk assess tips or tricks

I don't have any tips or tricks. But it has happened on the odd occasion where the RA hasn't popped up on the main page so I don't see it until I open up that day's bookings - which can be annoying if it's a big task. The lodgement times for pracs is great as you can see who has booked what in when ...

Re: Pracs that are soley stationary supplies

Sometimes I hope that when the teacher's plan their lesson in advance, they would remind their students to bring in the necessary stationery equipment like coloured pencils, rulers etc... instead my nice stash of textas and pencils get returned with lids missing and not sharp!

Re: Chemical transport in lifts

Having used university labs that required lifts, I know there's one designed for transport of materials and chemicals. I'm not sure about a school setting though. And also, don't believe the architects know too much about safely and regulations. I've been in my new building for just over a year and ...

Re: Website - Risk Assess

Highly recommend Risk Assess. We have used it for more than 3 years (before I started) and it's great as it logs all pracs online. I have reminded the teachers to add quantities and concentrations to their order. Apparently, they have moved to the GHS which is good but freaked out the teachers when ...

Is that like the back of a tile? That's what we use.

For hardness testing we use: fingernail, nail, steel blade, glass microscope slide, sandpaper/nail file, copper coin

We call it the exchanging fluids activity lol. We give each student two cups each. In one of the cups there's clear liquid and in 3 there's some 0.1M NaOH mixed in. They pour half the solution into the second cup and place on side bench to test later. The students mix liquids with 3 other class memb...

We used Dynaflow with our old building. They were good for us (and found a dead bird in one of the columns..). Our new company is Mechatronic Environmental Systems but we haven't had the fume cupboards serviced yet.

We have one under each bench in the labs. I know how you feel with the hot equipment though. The students place the tripods and gauze mats in the drawers when they are still warm and it etches into the lining!

Re: Stocktake on Chemwatch FFX

I think it's because I haven't gone in a cleaned out the chemicals so I have say, barium chloride (Chem Supply) but it's been generated about 10 times in the report with 0 quantity and only one of the barium chlorides has the correct amount, if that makes sense. So instead of 170 chemicals that get ...
