We use Amber glass bottles, even through we keep our soultions in cupboards, we find they keep better, being amber glass they help keep the light out. Glass is better in my mind, as some soultions can break plastic down, and make it brittle.

Disposal of agar plates in Microwave
After just getting a new microwave, and I have done my first batch of agar plates, in the microwave. Which I would say turned out very well. I shall never go back to doing them the old way, on the hot plate etc. I would now like to know how long you need to microwave the agar plates to dispose of th...

Re: Ammonium Nitrate
You can still use Ammonium Nitrate, if you have any. You can not BUY it any more, with out a License, which the DET will not go ahead with. So You need to ask around who may have some to give you or swap with some thing else. It will end up helping each other with items.

IF you are able to go to DET site, and click on In Principal, click again on your area, you should be able to find water/bann's distilled water in term 2 or term3 2007.

Re: pH madness
WE have been advised NOT to make our own distilled water. But to purchase it, because of the water ban's. Not too sure if that is a Sydney thing or not. Memo came in term 3 last year.

Re: Safety Glasses
Sticking to a safety number would be a better idea. Make sure the glasses have a side bit, it covers the side of the eye in case of splashing. Make sure ALL is plastic so they can be strezlised, some have a bit of metal here or there. Australian Safety standard is the way to go.
