Re: SAVE THE DATES: 27th & 28th November 2014

Great to hear, Narelle. Do you know the rough cost? I'd like to get in early so I can find out if I can come.

So you'll be getting a new prep room? Hope they listen to you so you get what you need. Make sure there is plenty of storage.

I remember getting mercurochrome put on grazes when I was little - don't remember any bugs living after that was applied! Ah, the "good" old days... :)

The message will stay in your outbox until the recipient receives it, i.e. logs on to Chemtalk. (I've learnt by experience :D )

Grey PVC Trays

I am trying to replace some damaged trays. The measure approx 320x260x50mm and are grey in colour with a ribbed base. The only ones I've found available are deeper, white in colour (but I guess not for long in this place) and are a bit pricey @$34 each. The ones I have are very durable and sturdy an...

Re: Laboratory Skills Course

Hi Rae For 2014 the cost is about $410 per semester. The fees are set to rise next year and the rumour is "significantly". The teacher I spoke to said they could go up to $1000 per semester. For me, with only two years experience, I think it will be worth the money, so will have to start s...

Re: Laboratory Skills Course

The Cert III is also running at Campbelltown TAFE this year, with a mid year intake in Term 3, Monday nights from 5.30 to 9.30pm - not sure why the hours are longer than Blacktown, maybe we're a bit slower in these parts? I was speaking to the TAFE teacher last week and it all looks okay for...

How long do you store agar plates?

Just wondering how long you keep agar plates? i.e. how long before they are required do you make them up? I remember making them and storing them in the fridge but can't remember how long before the prac.

Thanks

Re: Laboratory Safety Signs

Thanks Lyn, that sounds really useful. It can be difficult finding decent signs on the net. Where I am, the previous labby put the warning sign in with the laser, I guess that way the teacher will always remember to put it up :cheesy:

Re: help

My understanding is that you need to have a register of all hazardous substances, regardless of quantity. Can you bring it up with your health and safety committee? You should have a committee in your workplace. In lieu of that, it needs to go to the principal. I'd look on the Workcover website and ...

How big was that one, Noona? I notice the catalogue doesn't mention that it needs to be put together, that could have been a nasty surprise!

Wave Model

Hi All
I need to purchase a wave motion apparatus (wave model). I've seen a few from the major suppliers that measure about 60cm. The HT has told me that she had a really large model at a previous school. She described it as being nearly a metre long. Anyone ever come across one this size?

Iodine Solution Label (& Chemwatch FFX)

Hi All. Just making up a new solution of Iodine (3g Iodine and 15g KI to 1L water). I'm confused with the label option on Chemwatch. I've printed the label for Iodine Solution and it shows it as "Danger". Am I in the right place? What have other people used?

Thanks in anticipation.

Luminol will also react to bleach, although there is a slight difference. (So the moral is: if you commit a murder, don't think that cleaning it up with bleach will get you off the hook).

Re: Tracking of dataloggers

Is it the students losing them, or the teachers? Maybe numbering each unit and providing a list with each prac to record which student or group of students (or teacher) took each data logger, then the teacher can mark off as they are returned. Sounds like a lot of work but they aren't cheap things.
