Phenolphalein

Hi Just wondering if anyone can let me know of an alternative to Phenolphalein as an indicator. It seems a pretty nasty sort of chemical.

We make it super diluted. Like 0.01 M. Risk assess saids that this concentration is acceptable for students, though we do make them wear gloves and only get it in dropper bottles, so they only have a limited amount. Safety glasses and lab coats are worn for every prac

Recipe we use is dissolve 2 gm phenolphthalein in 600ml ethanol. make up to 1L with distilled water. Filter.
Students get a dropper bottle of this solution which is safe for use 7-12
