Pracs that are soley stationary supplies

Post by rae »

Just wondering if everyone organises pracs that only ask for stationary supplies. I have a teacher who has requested White paper and red and blue cardboard. Would you supply that or would you expect the teacher to get it for themselves?

Our faculty has a stash of that kind of stuff that we use for those pracs. I keep it stocked up when I order other stationery, so yes, I do supply it when requested.

We supply it, but somethings come out of science budget and other things don't. It can also depend on how much they need whether we pay for it or not.

The science budget should cover coloured cardboard and white cardboard for making all types of posters etc. We order packs of 100 sheets for the white cardboard and 50 sheet packs of multi-coloured cardboard. Our supplier is SBA/Office National which also handles school supplies ie, glue sticks, scissors, rulers, paint, plasticine, paper clips, etc. All those little bits and pieces that a science department needs when necessary. A4 copy paper comes from the office. I just say that I need it for updating safety data sheets which is a legitimate reason. There is no need to say that the paper is being used for anything else. People can get a bit funny sometimes if you say you need it for a classroom activity.

I buy from OfficeMax coloured cardboard in pack of 100 assorted colours. I also buy white coloured pipe cleaners, paddle pop sticks, plain and coloured, matchsticks plain and coloured, plasticene, balloons..all of these are in bulk quantities and all for class work.
Also I buy glue sticks, sticky tape, staplers, scissors, coloured pencils - each lab has a class set of these..
plastic cups, paper cups, masking tape, oh the list goes on - all from Office Max
This is all from Science money!

I supply it as I have a stash - or I visit the print room.
That said, I had 15 plastic rulers and now I have none.
I told all the staff to ask the students to provide their own rulers. OMG it was like i asked them to provide their own copper sulfate.
I replied with, I am sure they need a ruler for other subjects, and look it is on the required equipment list. Rulers are $1. and science cannot afford to keep replacing them, but $1 per student is OK!
I am sure maths don't provide calculators.......

I just went into one lab to clean and tidy before school - and EVERY pair of scissors has gone, most of the small staplers and almost all of the coloured pencils are broken and it is only Week 7! How come teachers do not take care of the resources they have? how hard is it to count back in the scissors - I had a wooden stand made like a test tube rack so they can see at a glance what is missing...... I have noticed in recent years more and more kids are turning up on first week of school with absolutely no supplies - no pens pencils, rulers, rubbers nothing!
How hard can it be for parents not to provide this - they are not expensive!
I get teachers rushing in and taking my pens and rulers and all MY supplies off my desk, and I then have nothing..grrrr.... this is not the way to address the problem!

This was my stationery costs for last year.
With about a quarter of that budget I won't be supplying white board markers and multiple other stuff.
Stationery

scissors x 20 $44.00
calculators x 10 $72.00
white board markers and refills $300.00
Graph paper 2mm $7.50
Graph paper 5mm $7.50
Rulers $34.00
protractors $3.90
Paper clips $2.90
Thumbtacks $2.10
Sticky tape $44.00
Gaffer tape $15.00
Masking tape $16.00
Glue sticks $25.00
Permament markers x 12 $25.00
String $15.00
Pencils $10.85

Sum Stationery $624.75
It's got me beat as to why teachers CANNOT manage to return what has been given to them. :redcard:
laziness I figure.

I am really lucky in that any stationary supplies for the department are purchased for the entire school by the receptionist.
This is getting away from the original question I wanted to know if you expect the teachers to organise there own pracs that only use stationary. But I guess that has been answered.

Sometimes I hope that when the teacher's plan their lesson in advance, they would remind their students to bring in the necessary stationery equipment like coloured pencils, rulers etc... instead my nice stash of textas and pencils get returned with lids missing and not sharp!

Whilst I am quite happy to supply orders that include stationary this mornings order made me see red :redcard:
It is the second time he has ordered this.
15 strips of paper 30cm long and 1cm wide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn't his mother ever teach him how to use scissors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got 2 sheets of A4 paper and cut them into strips over the top of him and his desk.
I can be a bitch at times.
Yesterday it was changing an order for period 4 at recess.
Then at lunch asking for something for last period just as the bell rang and heading off to his classroom in a different block up 2 flights of stairs rather then following me to the prep room and taking it himself!
