Post by lab-woman »

Hi Everyone,

I need to stock up on Rubber Stoppers.... for everything, test tubes, flasks etc.

Can anyone help me with what sizing to buy? I have no idea.

Thanks

I have found it so difficult to order stoppers - and it is such a hit-and-miss process. For the last year or two I have kept one stopper from each packet of 10, along with the supplier code and price, which will hopefully make my ordering ordeal a lot simpler in future! Good luck, I don't envy you, lab-woman!

Some companies list a size number but others will list the dimensions. Try measuring what you have and find some that way. The other suggestion is to buy just one packet and check before ordering more. I'm buying them from scratch, so have had to take the guessing approach!

Am I allowed to put this up? delete if not.

Westlab
small one hole 10 pkt. $49.20
Medium one hole 10 pkt. $58.40
Large two hole 10 pkt. $65.60

not cheap but so versatile.

at this stage keeping for seniors, bright colours seem to attract little fingers lol

Maybe they should be paying for this!!

Bunsen tubing is great too sits flat on benches. Plus plastic tubes for stoppers no more cutting glass.

I love the bunsen tubing but you can get the tubing from other companies as well. I don't buy from that particular company anymore.

Has anyone here had experience using these PE test tube stoppers from LabFriend?

https://www.labfriend.com.au/stoppers-for-test-tubes-pe

Seems too cheap to be any good, but was wondering if it's worth a try.

The uni-stoppers from westlab are great. I've also got some silicone stoppers without holes from another supplier (can't remember which) and they remain soft much longer than the traditional rubber ones. If you're after something specific that you don't want to risk ordering online Clark Rubber have a good range. I've taken bits of glassware in there before and tried different stoppers to get the fit I wanted.

Quote from a book by westlab, Longevity of products like rubber & Silicone in relation to their cost is a financial and hygienic issue for many industries. Silicone lasts approximately four times longer than rubber, while its price is around twice the price of rubber. Therefore, using silicone may save financiaily in long term. go Silicone.

Westlab's silicon green stoppers are the best invention. We have two sizes now and planning to get more. No more searching through tubs of dried out rubber stoppers for the right fit. They are worth the expense. I almost put a glass tube through my finger a year ago trying to insert it into a rubber stopper. The new uni stoppers with holes are so easy to fit glass tubing into, and also remove for cleaning.

Hi all late to the party of the Westlab Stoppers, so late I just ordered them today. This is after the Chemistry Class trying to find the Molar Volume of Hydrogen and the gas syringes leaking, most likely from the degraded rubber stoppers attached. However, as they wish to do it again tomorrow I have been busy in the woodwork area using the drill press and finding a slightly larger diameter glass tube and almost putting it into my finger, I now have 2 working gas syringes, which should hopefully satisfy the 4 students and the Teacher that were annoyed that the experiment did not work today.
