Esters

Post by kimmy »

Our Senior chemistry are doing the Preparing artificial fragrances and flavours experiment.
Has anyone made the salicylic acid or the decanoic acid stock solution.

Any recipes would be great - thanks in advance.

My question to that Kimmy is, has anyone been able to source the decanoic acid? I'm either having a bad senior moment or I am just useless, but none of my regular suppliers have this...

Decanoic acid, also known as capric acid (C10:0) or decylic acid, is a saturated fatty acid. Its formula is CH3(CH2)8COOH. Salts and esters of decanoic acid are called decanoates or caprates.

Mine is older stock but still fine to use. I think it came from either Chem Supply or Serrata Chemicals a few years ago.
