Yet another chemwatch question

Post by RosalieM »

I've decided to finally print out mini MSDS (gradually... as I go...) for sending out with dropper bottles of solutions etc. next year. What do you do when the solution concentration you want isn't listed on chemwatch? I found the one where you can make up your own but it asks for it in % not Molarity, and I don't know if it actually creates a mini MSDS or not because I haven't got that far. Do you just print out the solid form (the one I am working on is ammonium nitrate - they have the solid form or 0.5M solution and I'm looking for 0.1M). I'm starting to wonder if it is worth the effort!

I alternate between:

https://detwww.det.nsw.edu.au/assetmana ... chemicals/

and

https://chemwatchdb.det.nsw.edu.au/default.htm

for my msds. Between them by doing a search for the strength you are after covers all my solution labeling/msds needs.

Thats a slight problem for those of us who don't have access to the DET site.
Any other suggestions?

Hey Rosalie
I just did a chemwatch search of 0.1M and it came up with a list that includes ammonium nitrate. All I did was type in 0.1M and search. Hope this helps a bit!!

Rae, Chemwatch/ Chemwatch Gold isn't DET specific.

Both links you put on here are DET sites and I couldn't access them.
I do however have access to Chemwatch.

Brilliant!!!
ie just typing in the molarity.....
Solves many of my labelling problems.
Thank you so much. Who would have thought it!!!

I can't access those sites either Richard. I get to Chemwatch another way...

Lorrae, thanks for the tip on searching for the molarity. It looks like it only does exact searches, so if the words are in a different order it won't recognise them. A search for ammonium nitrate only has 2 results because all the others have the numbers in front of them instead of after the chemical name. Rediculous system but I'm glad you've got it sorted!

I will continue with my plan now... maybe it is worth the effort after all!
