NSW LabTech Association
NSW is the only state that doesn't have a formal association. Well...hopefully thats going to change.
An Information/Expression of Interest meeting is being held on
Monday 28 February
Where : Catholic Education Office, 3 Keating St Lidcombe - plenty of parking within the grounds or a short 5 minute walk from the station along John St.
Time : 4.15pm for a 4.30 start
Afternoon tea will be provided.
This initial meeting, with a representative from the Associations Forum, will cover " the legalities of what is involved in forming an association"
Gary Carey - who is on one of the working parties, formed after the Forum on the Status of Lab Technicians, in July last year, will give an update on what's happening with training packages, pay levels etc..
I STRESS THAT BECAUSE THE MEETING IS BEING HELD AT CEO, THE ASSOCIATION WILL BE FOR ALL LAB TECHNICIANS IN ALL NSW SCHOOLS, NOT JUST FOR CATHOLIC AND INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS.
For those of you who are in various regions of the state and obviously cannot be present at this meeting, please PM if you are in favour and supportive of a state association and would be willing to join ( once we nut out the legalites and can let you know what the association will offer you )
Have a look at the websites from the other states :
http://www.qest.org.au Qld
http://www.ltav.org.au/ Vic
http://www.labnetwest.asn.au WA
If you are able to attend please RSVP so we can cater for the numbers.
Hope to see many of you there or to hear from you.
I will post an update
Please feel free to ring me Ph : 0405 244 862
Could you please pass this on to your wider networks
Best regards
Margaret

Totally agree, and well done to whomever is taking the initative and pushing this idea through. The more professional we act the more recognised we will be
Re: NSW LabTech Association
Great idea. I won't be able to make the meeting but would be willing to join the association when it is up & running. Would this help us make our jobs "real" instead of just support staff?

Great idea Margaret.
I would not be able to attend the meeting but would support the idea to form a state association and would be willing to join if it got up and running.

Re: NSW LabTech Association
Just an update from last Monday's Information meeting.
* 14 people from the 3 education sectors were in attendance
* Anna Davis - President of ASTA spoke about the legalities and responsibilities of forming an association
* Brett McKay - Treasurer of STANSW gave support of forming an association and suggested using a NING on the STANSW website to host a forum for labbie discussions. He will let us know when it is available.
* Gary Carey - from working party on the recognition/status of lab technicans - gave an update on where things are up to with discussions on training/levels etc. Still a long way to go
* a working party was formed to nut out the paperwork of a constitution which is needed when registering an association.
At this stage and until confirmation ( and payment ) the association will be known as SETNSW ( School Education Technicians of NSW ) ( pronounced set-ens-wah )
Will keep you posted as we get closer to membership costs and registration etc.
