Digestion of foods Prac.

Post by trish armstrong »

Hi Friends,
recently we tried to do digestion with various food samples, and we used 2M sulfuric acid. then left for a couple of days.
This didn't work all it seemed to do is cook the food, (we tried raw meat and vege's).
Does anyone do a similar prac, and if you don't mind sharing what acid(solution) works best?
Thanks would like it to work next time... :D

Hi Trish,

Try a solution of hydrochloric acid. Can't give you specific details except that the gastric acid in our stomach contains hydrochloric acid. The prac might work better using the actual acid found in the digestive system. Let us know if it works using the different acid.

This is an experiment I got from somewhere but I have never actually done it. It does involve enzymes as well as HCl though.
Good luck.
