G'day all!
Does anyone know an excellent way of rounding/polishing the ends of fibre optic cable. If it's cut with scissors or stanley knife it doesn't transmit light very well at all to the other end no matter how carefully you do it! Any ideas?

I have used a method similar to this with plastic fibre optic cable, to make little headlights etc for model trains!

Re: Fibre Optic Cable
Hi Richard,
Simply run the end of the Fibre Optic cable through a Bunsen Flame quickly, hence fire polishing the ends, this has worked wonders in the past and most of the time you can't see that it has been cut.
Cheers,

Re: Fibre Optic Cable
Thanks Ian, a soldering Iron works a treat as the fibre is very fine and any intense heat from a bunsen would destroy the end completley! We do have larger diameter fibre optic cable which I will heat polish with a bunsen flame!
