indicator pH1-14

Post by malook »

Is there a recipe for making up Universal Indicator that goes from pH1-14 instead of 4-11. I know that you can buy it in test strips, but as i make up my own universal I've been looking for a recipe, unsuccessfully! Perhaps its just too complicated. What do you think labbies??

0.1gm phenolphthalein, 0.2gm methyl red, 0.3 gm methyl orange, 0.4gm bromothymol blue, 0.5 gm thymol blue.
dissolved in 500 mLs of 50% ethanol.

This is another one:
Stock solution:
To make 1 Litre
0.05 gm Thymol Blue
0.125 gm Methyl Red
1.00 gm Phenolphthalein
0.50 gm Bromothymol Blue
1 Litre Ethanol
Dissolve the four indicators in the Ethanol.
Solution should be green in colour (neutral).
Adjust using 0.05M Sodium Hydroxide dropwise.
