Hello,
I was wondering does anyone know off the top of their heads if there is any rule for the kids to grow/use maggots in school prac. My forensics teacher was wondering as she is about to start the topic of decay and thought she could implement a prac using the critters.
I'm searching but haven't found anything yet to say no.
please help, give me your opinion. (DEC school)
Cheers Trish.

We have grown them before and I could not find any thing that said we could'nt.
I got them from a pet shop and once from a fishing tackle shop

Our cherubs are doing energy from food and were burning some cheerios and one of the kids let out a scream. Yes, there were maggots growing in the cheerios jar, ha ha . try telling them it is against the rules!!

Re: Maggots for forensics
Thanks for that, I have been reading and I can't find anything concerning maggots just animal welfare. So I suppose if I can research how to look after them properly, and check with Principal/HOD. It may be ok.

Some of our kids grew maggots last year for their biology EEI. You do not have to fill out any animal ethics paperwork as its an invertebrate.
