Hi Mother,
the biology teachers[3] are about to do this prac with potatos as they have without any problems for many years
the students cut small pieces with the largest cork borer and then take 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 cm slices to use
i make fresh 3% peroxide solution, diluting fresh 6%
then they follow the method in Biology In Context
hope this may help
regards juliem

Hi mother,
We use junket tablets which are bought from the supermarket. The tablets contain the enzyme Rennin. We make the junket up with milk according to the directions on the packet. The rennin curdles the milk by transforming caseinogen into insoluble casein, producing a jelly-like product.
We have also purchased enzymes from southern biological and used the practicals that come on the information sheet. However they must be refrigerated and don't last long (4-6months).
I like the junket for it's convienience. I always have a couple of packets stored.
Hope this helps.

Our Biology teacher has just downloaded some "simple" enzyme pracs from the internet. Unfortunately no web address on the copy he gave me. If you want a copy I'm happy to fax a copy to you. I can be contacted on 02 4471 5600 (ask for Sandra in the Lab). The teacher is very happy with the results, easy to prepare and excellent results.

Re: enzyme experiment Yr. 12
I asked about this earlier in the term, see a few weeks back ,check those replies I found them very helpful. Also substituting liver for silverbeet (no smell and yukky test tubes.)
Re: enzyme experiment Yr. 12
We just got some awesome results using silver beet for the first time, thanks to this forum!!
We have been happily using potato for years, but one of this year's students is allergic to potato. We were happy to know about the silver beet as a substitute, so we didn't have to mess around with liver.
Thanks everyone!

Hi guys,
I was about to put my hand up for a copy of this prac too, but after checking, I have found the labbie "Waddle", hasn't been on this site for over a year. My guess is that she has moved on. Just thought I would let you know, because if you're checking your fax machines daily, you may be waiting a while. I could be wrong, but I don't think you'll be seeing those faxes anytime soon. Maybe someone else has something. Unfortuneately, I can't help with this one.
Cheers,
Lisa
