I have bottles and bottles of waste copper sulfate solution usually 1M. Is there any suggestions as to what I could do with it??

Thanks

Pour it into a large evaperateing basin, leave over the weekend, in a fume cupboard, or some where safe. Collect the crystal's and put in a bottle, this can be used for Year 7 growing crystals,

Heat in a little water, your dried out crystals, and grow crystals again, and again, and again. Ours just goes around around around.

Have a great week end folks.

Yes, I also re-use the copper sulphate in this way. We'd use kg's otherwise. I found filtering before evaporating is good too to get rid of bits of dust or whatever.

Me 2,
I also keep a bottle of copper sulfate waste to do the
'ole steel wool ball & copper sulphate in the test tube' prac!
Which makes it disposable.

Again Me 2!
I seldom use new Cu Sulfate. You are not allowed to tip it down the sink, so it has to be evaporated any way, so it just goes back into the bottle labelled "Reclaimed Copper Sulfate" and goes around again and again

Hi All,

If there is the need to dispose of your Copper Sulfate solution, simply have a bucket filled with saw dust and add the solution to this. Mix it so that it forms just a wet dust as dispose of this in the Solid Wate bin.

Otherwise, as all our other collegues on this topic have said re-use this and have it ready for another day.

Cheers,

Good morning everyone!!

I'm feeling really dumb this morning.
I've tried pouring the copper sulfatet into an evapourating basin and leaving for about 7 days now!! and it has barely evapourated. I have litres of the stuff !!Is their a quicker way to evapourate it?!! or do I just have to be patient!!
HELP!!

Slowly heating it. When the volume is reduced to less then half, pour it into something flat and evaporate over few weeks. Also, you can tie a small crystal and immerse it into your beaker and grow the crystals that way. You can recover huge crystals. 8O
I also keep the saturated solution in 1l bottle for next CuSO4 experiments.
