My one that worked was from Silform Chemicals in Qld & is labelled
Agar Agar (Bacteriological). According to them it is 500-600 gel strength. It worked very well

Hi all,

I am just about to put in a chemical order and I was wanting to purchase the agar 1000 gel as it is cheaper than agar from other companies. Does anyone know whether the problem with the 1000 gel has been sorted. Is anyone using the product bought recently? I was wanting to purchase it from Labtek,

thanks, regards Kim.

Thanks Labbie, I won't order any then. I'll spend a little more and play it safe,

Thanks again, Kim.

This is very interesting. We have been doing the metal crystal agar-agar prac and the kids had trouble with the 750gel. So I did it with precise measurements and it worked fine. (0.5g to 40ml).Alsothe Nutrient Agar I make up in the pressure cooker and my refrigerated spare controls, even after a couple of months, are still perfect. It is miraculous. (And quite possibly a PB)! P.S. the Agar-Agar is chem supply sourced from Science Supply
