Hello,
Does anyone know how to treat photographic chemical waste, i have say 5 litres that i would like to treat/neutralise, so as i can safely flush.

If its silver it can NOT be put down the sink, it has to be collected.

Put this waste into a bucket or suitable container with enough room to spread saw dust over it. Stir this in and add sufficient saw dust continously until it forms a wet saw dust consistency, then discard to solid waste.

Photographic developer if fine if diluted to go to the towns sewrage treatment works but as Sue says fixer does contain silver and should be reclaimed if possible and under no circumstances flushed. Do what the Doctor says for photographic fixer!

Hunter Water informed us once that their fantastic filters cannot remove the silver content from waste water before it is returned to the environment - one of the very few things they can't. Chicken Vindaloo was another.

Thanks Rob, will use this method of disposal for the short term, sounds ok for the small amount i have to dispose of.
