NAIDOC WEEK

Post by Vick »

Are there any schools doing anything Science related for Naidoc Week? Or does anyone have any suggestions, the Science teacher that was asked to organise a lesson for Naidoc Week is now on 2 weeks sick leave, I am trying to help my head teacher out.

Thank you

Hey Vicki,

I am in the process of putting together "The Science of Catching Dinner". We have fish traps, nets, spears with woomeras, bows & arrows (still used a bit in the Torres Straits) etc. I also have asked an uncle for some blow-by-blow photos of a Kup Mari, which is the TSI equivalent of a hangi. Then I'm writing little explanations about the science of using each tool, or process. It's pretty cool, because it demonstrates that the mobs used a lot of technology, even if it was only with locally available materials. I have PM'ed you the contacts for your local mob. Why don't you ask them to help you out, and be SURE to ask permissions before you use any photos.
Cheers, K 8-)
