Hi....I have been asked to get rid of 500Mls of Lead Nitrate 0.1M that has a thick gunk at the bottom of the bottle, this was made in 2001. I also need to dispose of 2Litres of Zinc Sulfate 0.1M which also has floties and gunk on the bottom of the bottle.

I have read the CSIS pages BUT want to make sure I am doing it right.
Do I place some sodium hydoxide (granules) into these bottles and stir and let them settle for a day or 2 and then pour the clear liquid dowm the sink and place left over gunk in the Metals disposal bottle????

Thanks

Lead waste 39 Taken from the CSIS Use a small old but clean jam jar with a lid.

Add sodium carbonate solid, to waste, pour into bottle,
when clear down the sink to waste

A small lead salt will remain on the bottom

When the bottle is full, place in the collection area for pick up some time. And start a new bottle.

Zinc sulphate: is a Dilute down the sink, with lots of tap water.
or use a sieve to catch the bits first.
