Cleaning retort clamps

Post by remlap12 »

Good morning all,

Perhaps an odd question.....I've been asked to clean up our retort clamps, boss heads etc.
What would anyone suggest to soak or wash them in??
:?

TIA
Helen

My first thought is metho and a chux cloth to wipe them over. Not sure if that's a *good* thought!! If there's a lot of chemical residue on them I'd be just using water and a cloth though. As long as they can dry fairly quickly so they don't rust...

That is an odd request, Helen! God, next they'll want you to clean the tripods :yuck: :giggle:

I guess try to work out what's on them and why they want them cleaned. Maybe just detergent and a cloth/scourer/brush. But as Rosalie says, make sure they dry quickly.

I recently bought new tripods, so I'm safe there! :clap3:
They just didn't seem to be clamping tightly.....so a clean was suggested #-o

That has got me confused. If they aren't clamping tightly, would it be the wind-y part that is not working properly. Or is it just that the clamp has been bent? What are they trying to clamp? Is the clamp just not ever going to be tight enough for what they are doing?
I'd try one and I wouldn't put too much effort in unless you can see a difference.

Hi Merilyn,

I'm actually not worrying too much about the clamps. They have pulled a motor out of a vacuum cleaner and were trying to get it to operate, the clamps were holding the small motor. Probably not quite what they were designed for...
